Oprah Winfrey was born in Mississippi in 1954. She was born to a teenage single mother who broke up with her boyfriend not long after the birth. She has had a terribly hard childhood stating that she was raped at age 9, ran away at age 13 and then became pregnant when 14. She was a smart child and earned a scholarship to Tennessee State University.
