User Survey 2010 results

Late last week we concluded our User Survey 2010, receiving an astounding 4,658 responses. Before we even get into some of the results, we’d like to send out a sincere “Thank You” to all of you that responded.

As with any form of surveys, some answers are to be expected. For example, the majority of MindMeister users hail from the United States, German users taking second place, and the United Kingdom brings home the bronze podium position. In the chart below, we’ve broken out usership representing 1% or more of those that responded.

Likewise, as we suspected, almost three quarters of you are Male, and two thirds of you are between 25 and 34 years of age. The IT industry is MindMeister’s primary field of usage, however, we saw significant increases in both the Education and Marketing categories.

One question/answer that really stood out to us was the staggering amount of MindMeister users also using Google Docs / Google Apps. We figured that a number of you were using this service, but we didn’t have a clear idea of just how many. The suite of 37 Signals tools scored quite high as well, but nowhere even close to the products those in Mountain View are pushing out.

Your opinions and comments have been truly insightful, and we’ve already started working on some improvements as well as new features suggested in the survey. Again, our sincere thanks to all of you that participated!

Update: 11 February 2010 – The lucky winners have been selected and emails dispatched! :) Thanks again for all of your valuable input!

Spread the word!

  1. Great idea doing a survey. I’d be interested to know what the most asked for feature was and also, when you plan to release the next version of your software. I understood that this was to be early this year.
    Thanks

  2. The most asked for feature was “Support for more map types” such as OrgCharts and the like, with more formatting features a close second. Were these your choices also? New release should be out within the next two weeks!

  3. That’s great, the support for more map types and more formatting features were my top choices too. Can’t wait for the new release, thanks for the quick reply.

  4. I wish I can add multiple people at a time when sharing the map on my iPhone. Adding one person at a time is a waste of time.

  5. And also I want to have the ability to group people into different group like “read only group” and “editable group” because I have many employees to work with.

    Thank You.

  6. I just thought that I would share with you a scenario at the place where I work, a top 200 company in the US. I use your product at work and thankfully it is allowed through the firewall, many things are not so I feel lucky! Anyway, I have been sharing my maps with colleagues, printing them and generally managing my work successfully using them. There has been a lot of interest in the product at work and I have encouraged a few of my colleagues to start using it but, I needed to get it officially sanctioned by the company to promote it further. My colleagues were concerned that they would sign up and then the access might be withdrawn if the corporate decision-makers decided that putting business information onto the web might pose risks. What we needed was a full and proper review of the security inherent within the system, get that signed off, then promote the product to my 40,000 information technology using colleagues, most employess are actually non IT blue collar. To cut a long story short, we started the process and the software review team looked at Mindmeister and several other products including iMindmap. The company has now chosen iMindmap purely because it has a greater number of formatting options, has integrated project management and integrates with Microsoft products. I think that there is still potentially the possibility that we may return to your product in the future but it is a real shame that because of just a handful of issues we have gone for this other piece of software. I was actually in the last software review meeting that we had, during this one of my colleagues demonstrated the drag and drop files capability onto mind maps, this was really the seal the deal moment! But ironically I think yours is a much better product, the iPhone app is far superior and yours deserves really to beat iMindmap. Can’t wait to the new verison of Mindmeister. I’ll understand if you don’t want to allow this post as it refers to a competitor :)

  8. I would love to see your roadmap and comment on upcoming features (seeing stats on what type of people use your product may be interesting for you, but users don’t really care, we care about seeing the product get more powerful).

PLease share the roadmap and allow us to comment/vote on features ongoing – it’s a powerful way to ensure you are working on the right things.

I for one want folders as my biggest need, too many maps and tagging isn’t enough.

    Cheers,
    Darren

  9. I use mind mapping a lot. I also use live scribe.

I would like to combine the two. It looks like this is possible with your collaborative roll back log.

    thanks
