How successful were the 5 year plans? by Mind Map: How successful were the 5 year plans?

1. 3rd 5 year plan

1.1. Aims

1.1.1. to improve and create new consumer goods such as Radios, Bikes and household goods. Though this was later altered when the war broke out and changed to produce guns for the war effort.

1.1.1.1. Successes, these include the improvement of consumer goods, which raised moral of the populous and was so successful that by 1939 only The USA and Germany produced more goods that the USSR. However this was short lived as the war broke out, but because of the number of workers in factories Russia was able to defeat Nazi Germany in the 2nd world war.

2. In conclusion The plans were a success because they lead to a more powerful and affluent soviet union/ However this is not without many individual failures, for example it could be argued that the famine caused the plans to be an overall failure because the party was excessive in grain requisitioning which caused the deaths of many, however because of the overall success of the plans Russia was able to defeat Nazi Germany, which may not have been possible had the plans not succeeded.

3. 1st Five Year Plan

3.1. aims

3.1.1. The aim of the plan was to improve Economic and industrial growth, which was lacking after the initial introduction of Bolshevik power.

3.1.2. Method

3.1.2.1. Introduce Kolkhoz

3.1.2.1.1. Kolkhoz were systems in which farming would become collective. (The basis of the CCP's collectivisation.)

3.1.2.1.2. The positives of Kolkhoz's is that many farmers who could not afford more technologically advanced equipment such as tractors which could pull plows, and plant seeds etc, now had access to such equipment which could increase production.

3.1.2.1.3. The Negatives of Kolkhoz's is that it lead to the increased requisitioning on grain as the party thought production would increase

3.1.2.1.4. to increase the production in industry the government set targets for prodiction, however these were unrealistic so new factories had to be produced. As a result of this industrial workers doubled from 3 million to 6 million.

3.1.2.2. Set Targets for industry

3.2. Overall it could be considered a success as it set the stage for the USSR to be a superpower, however for each success there was also a faliure as this plan resulted in many deaths due to famine.

4. 2nd 5 year plan
