What is the connection between gun laws and school? by Mind Map: What is the connection between gun laws and school?

1. Guns at school make students safer.

1.1. No law should deny teachers and students the right to defend themselves (Burnett).

1.1.1. The statistics of the 2007 school shooting at Virginia Tech by one man. ¨In nine minutes he fired 174 shots, killed 32 people and wounded 15" and "the killer missed with 73 percent of his shots, and he had more than 200 rounds remaining" (Burnett).

1.1.1.1. This means even if the shooter miss a lot it will still do a lot of damage.

1.1.2. States are know finding out that the best way to keep people safe by concealed carry of gun. ¨Since 2007, 22 states have considered legislation allowing lawful concealed carry on campus¨ (Burnett).

1.1.2.1. This connect to the viewpoint that states are now allowing concealed carry on campus.

1.2. Teacher are now taking up in arm to prevent school shooting in Harrold Texas (Up in).

1.2.1. According to Thweatt, ¨ The school is 30 miles from the nearest police station ("Up in").

1.2.1.1. This matters because the police station is, so far away form the school that the damage will be already be done.

1.2.2. Gun free zone are unconstitutional, so people should have the right to have gun, ¨The U.S. Gun-Free Schools Zone Act of 1990 made taking a gun within 1,000 feet of any school campus a federal offense" and " In 1995, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the act was an unconstitutional exercise of congressional authority¨ ("Up in").

1.2.2.1. That people should be allow to have gun at school, because gun free zones are unconstitutional.

1.3. Because someone need to protect them from a school shooting when it happens.

1.4. Because there are school that are fair away from a police station.

2. Guns at school do not make students safer.

2.1. Firearms on school grounds can be dangers under circumstances (Dickerson).

2.1.1. According to IACLEA's Board of Directors,"Use of a gun in self-defense appears to be a rare occurrence. For example, of the 30,694 Americans who died by gunfire in 2005, only 147 were killed by firearms in justifiable homicides by private citizens"(Dickerson).

2.1.1.1. This mean even if there are guns at school it will still do nothing, because it's very rare to use a gun for self defense.

2.1.2. According to IACLEA's Board of Directors, "Suicides accounted for 55 percent of the nation's nearly 31,000 firearms deaths in 2005" and "researchers have concluded that in homes where guns are present, the likelihood that someone in the home will die from suicide or homicide is much greater" (Dickerson).

2.1.2.1. This matter, because people are dieing because of guns in there homes, or near them.

2.2. Teacher should not use guns, because they are not sharpshooters (Blad).

2.2.1. According to Moffatt, a former hunter, "Even police on campus that day weren't able to prevent the attack" and "the chaos after the initial shots would have challenged even the most skilled responder" (Blad).

2.2.1.1. It connect to the viewpoint, because it say not every are sharp shoots inculding police and teacher.

2.2.2. If teacher have gun not getting train with them, "And many state bills wouldn't require additional training beyond what's required to obtain a concealed-carry permit for teachers and school staff to carry guns in schools"(Blad).

2.2.2.1. I think that if teachers have guns they need to train them, and there should be a bill at least to train them.

2.3. Because it's very rare someone will use a gun for self defense.

2.4. Because it's more likely that a student will use the gun on him self.
