1. Insight gained from week 4.1 classmate post

1.1. Insight #1

1.1.1. On insight that I gained from by classmate’s post comes from an article shared by Angela. The article is about motivating millennials when elearning by Christopher Pappas. The insight gained is how important it has become to let students know why they are learning something by relating it to the real world. With overwhelming access to resources and information 21st century learners need to understand why they are doing something and how it will be used in life. Telling a student that they need to learn something just because you said so is no longer adequate. If the students understand the purpose they we pursue it with more focus.

1.2. Insight #2

1.2.1. The second insight gained from my classmates also relates to what could change in my current learning environment. This insight when utilizing and instructional design model to select a model that can also be utilized without the online portion. Familiarizing yourself with a model that can be used in your everyday instructional models would be a very powerful thing for overall successfulness and student achievement.

1.3. Insight #3

1.3.1. The third insight that I gained would be the usefulness of some particular models. The SAM model for me seemed to be an instructional model that I would not say is particularly useful. The reason behind me not valuing it is that my class is not project oriented and does not require something this hands on. After reading about Bryan’s work environment and how this model could be used by him it gave me ideas. I believe that this model could be used for curriculum planning and vertical team planning. I think using a model such as this could make these meeting more effective as they tend to not be. I suppose just finding ways these models could be used more often could be an insight on its own.

2. Change in my enviroment

2.1. Based on my current understand the biggest change that needs to take place in my instructional environment would be to utilize instructional design. In my current environment we do not have access to very much technology, but we still have the need to plan effect units. I have worked with many teachers over the years as a class within a class teacher and effective planning is something that could improve our student’s achievement. Utilizing any of the instructional design models could help us better understand the needs of our students and get them to those goals and objectives through careful step by step planning using any number of instructional design models. Often teachers have an idea of what they need to teach in order to prepare their students for whatever test may be coming at the end of the year, but they do not effectively plan to reach that goal. Using an instructional design model could help them better understand the process of planning and be far more rewarding for both the teacher and student in terms of success and effectiveness.

3. How infromation from classmates can help me improve my instructional design

3.1. I feel that this may sound redundant but the insight I gained from my classmates will all be used to improve my instructional module. I think the most important items that I found while reviewing my classmates post is the article that I reference on insight number one. I thing this information on how to increase millennial involvement. One of the weakest areas of teaching would have to be feedback. I often struggle at providing quick feedback, but this is clearly an area that I need to improve in. I think using an online platform could help with this, but I still need to be diligent. Providing timely feedback could aid in keeping the student motivated in their achievement.
