Assessments by Mind Map: Assessments

1. Formative- a way for teachers to assess what concepts students are grasping and which ones they still need further instruction on with out grading them. Examples of this could be think-pair-share or a simple class poll.

2. Summative- a formal assessment used to evaluate a students learning. These assessments are usually seen as a unit assessment or as a state end of year exam like the STAAR.

3. Performance- a form of assessment that requires for students to preform a task and apply their knowledge of a topic, rather than simply answering a test question. Examples of this would be group projects or creating a portfolio.

4. Diagnostics- a pre assessment that helps give teachers an idea of what the students know already in order to teach in a more effective way. Examples of this might be a pre quiz or a running record.

5. Interim/Benchmark- a form of assessing students learning, as well as a way to predict how well they will do on future assessments. Examples of this would include STAAR benchmarks, and unit assessments.

6. H.O.T QUESTIONS

6.1. Opening Questions - Before we get started today, can someone remind me how parallelograms and quadrilaterals are related? Summarize what we learned about geometry and 3D shapes yesterday.

6.2. Guided Questions- How could we take these 3D shapes we are learning about and create a model? How can you prove to me that a cube has 8 vertices?

6.3. Closing Questions- What strategies could you use in order to check to make sure that you correctly identified your 3D shapes? In your own words, explain to me what we learned about today.
