What happens after people are forced to migrate away from their home? by Mind Map: What happens after people are forced to migrate away from their home?

1. Where: South east Asia, Africa, middle east, south America

1.1. Where do people have to migrate the most?

1.2. In places like Afghanistan and Iraq crime is high and people have to move quite a bit because of crime. For example Abdullah's family has enough money to meet their needs and they aren't living a bad lifestyle by any stretch but because of the amount of crime their it wasn't safe for their children so they had to move to a different place in Iraq. Imagine what it would be like for the mmuch poorer people who don't have the money to just leave the place and find a new place to live.

2. Why: Civil War, Political issues, resurces, debt, fires, race, religion.

2.1. Why do people have to move their homes?

2.2. If subsistent farmers start moving to the city for specific reasons the amount of crop production will decrease because there is less farmers.

2.3. If the reason they are leaving is war then they will probably be seeking safety in the city /different country more desperately. This can be a problem for many cities and countries because they won't have enough resources to feed the thousand of immigrants coming in. One simple war/political issue can cause a minimum of two countries such a big difficulty.

3. Facts:

3.1. 21.3 million refugees in the world today

3.2. Around 40 million people are displaced from their homes but are still living in the country, For example slums/the street.

3.3. The largest slum in the world is is in india. It's called Dharavi

3.4. In Congo there was lots f fightings between different ethnic groups, so much fighting that the farmers had to stop planting crops.

3.5. the majority of people who flee the country in congo are children. Their parents walk all those miles to seek a better future for heir children only to find them sick and diseased so then they have to walk to the nearest clinic which could be hundreds of miles away. In the Congo they don't even have a slum to go to. In war everything is taken from them. the father is killed the homes are burned down and they have to flee. there is nothing they can do. they are left homeless and hopeless. No money either. They just have perseverence to keep walking, with no sense of direction.

3.5.1. people are trying to help but there is only so much a organization ca do. they try and provide a little bit of food for everyone but they can't some people still end up going hungry.

4. What: They lose jobs/family.

4.1. What happens when their families lose someone or their jobs?

4.2. Another reason they might be wanting to go to the city is because they may have lost there jobs or if it's a farmer they may not have enough money to buy next years crop. So they go to the city, but as the movie metro manila shows us the city isn't as good as it may be when you go there you may find that there are no jobs and there is no where to live. You can't trust anyone either. In most cases they end up going to shanty towns.

5. How: They go to slums, They go live on streets, labor, they become refugees.

5.1. Questions: How do they survive if they lose everything, and have no knowledge of the place they are going.

5.2. A lot of the time the people aren't going to the city by choice sometimes if they want to have any chance of surviving they must go to the city or seek refuge in another countries.

5.2.1. Some examples are Syria. There is constant bombing and war there. Many people die. So people take everything they can with them and move countries hoping for a better future for there kids.

6. Who: Farmers,

6.1. Who loses their jobs and families? Who are affected the most?

6.1.1. Subsistent farmers end up quitting their job and going to the city to find a better life there but sometimes they find things hard in the city. They can't find a job or a place to live. this was all shown to us in Metro Mania.

6.2. Who can help?

6.2.1. The countries these people evacuate to can help them by taking them in and perhaps the government can help them.

6.3. Why are farmers affected the most? they are affected the most because they are the main people living in the countryside. Also their income is not gaurenteed for example of the weather isn't good for planting their crops they won't be able to make as mcuh of that crop, and they could get less then the amount of money that they need to maintain a proper living. Subsistent farmers who just manage to survive on what they are getting frim the harvest get it realy bad when something like this happens. They may end up having to sell their land and farm to keep themseklves fed.
