Michael Whelan\nBorn june 29th 1950 Culver City, California\nEducation: San Jose State 1973, 1973 - 1974 Art Center College of Design (dropped out to go freelance)\n\nDuring College in 74, he saw a flyer for San Diego Comic Con advertising Charles Schulz Ray Bradbury, Chuck Jones, Gene Roddenberry and others. It advertised \"artists- enter your work in the art show\". Here he met Donald Wollheim at DAW books who offered him cover work. \n\nWhelan\'s first sale was to Marvel Comics who bought from his portfolio and hired him for cover work. Whelan moved to NYC and visited Neal Adams\' studio and did some inking and painting for him. Neal kindly arranged an interview for Michael with Ace books, who also hired him to do cover work. Michael sold some work at LunaCon, the New York science fiction convention, and one of the buyers was author Harlan Ellison who later used the image to accompany one of his stories in Gallery Magazine.\n\nClients: book and album covers for authors and musicians like Isaac Asimov, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Brandon Sanderson, the Jacksons and MeatLoaf.
