1. 16. Canva Pinterest Post

1.1. You can create amazing looking Pinterest posts very quick and easy with Canva and use them to drive more free traffic to your blog, website or videos on YouTube (or anywhere else you choose)

1.1.1. Open all of the design templates in your dashboard

1.1.2. Go to the social media section

1.1.3. Click on Pinterest

1.1.4. Scroll through the design templates in the left column

1.1.5. Choose a template that you would like to use

1.1.6. Click on any text to change it or remove it

1.1.7. Click on any image or illustration to reposition it or remove it

1.1.8. Add other images or illustrations

1.1.9. Remember – You can use Pinterest to drive free traffic to anywhere on the internet…

1.1.10. Brand your Pinterest post

1.1.11. Add your logo or a picture of yourself to the Pinterest graphic

1.1.12. Add your name or company name

1.1.14. Remember you can add links within your graphic if you are downloading it as a PDF

1.1.15. When people click on your post in Pinterest they will be taken to the URL that you add to your post in Pinterest

2. 1. Create Your Canva Account

2.1. Sign up for a FREE account. You have 3 options to choose from

2.1.1. Note: If you sign up with Facebook or Google then Canva will use the email address that you have registered with those accounts to contact you with anything to do with your Canva account.

2.1.2. Sign up using Facebook (ensure you are already logged into your Facebook account

2.1.3. Sign up using Google (ensure you are already logged into your Google account

2.1.4. Sign up using your name and email address and enter a password.

2.2. Select which purpose you will be using Canva for

2.2.1. Work

2.2.1.1. Will you be creating designs in which you want all of your designs branded with your own logo or company information?

2.2.2. Personal

2.2.2.1. Will you be using Canva to create designs for a wide range of uses including your own unique designs or designs for other people?

2.2.3. Education

2.2.3.1. Will you be creating designs that will be used to teach in a classroom environment?

2.3. Click on ‘Play with Canva’ link to visit your Canva dashboard.

2.3.1. Canva offers a short video to watch – click anywhere on the screen to skip this and go straight to your dashboard.

2.4. Click on ‘Play with Canva’ link to visit your Canva dashboard.

3. 2. Navigate Your Canva Dashboard

3.1. Check or edit your account settings

3.2. Have you checked or do you need to change your

3.2.4. Note: This is also where you come to delete your account.

3.2.5. Click on the questions tab

3.2.5.1. This is where you can contact customer support at any time.

3.3. Billing and Terms

3.3.1. Have you added your payment details for purchasing any paid items that you may wish to use in your design. (You will find a lot of FREE items and you can upload your own images)

3.3.2. Will you be creating a Canva account that your team members can use?

3.3.3. If so have you added;

3.3.4. A company name.

3.3.5. A company address.

3.3.6. Invoices

3.3.7. Do you need to create a team?

3.3.7.1. If so click on the Create Team button and upgrade to a paid Canva account. This costs just $9.95 per month or you can pay annually.

3.3.7.2. If you upgrade you will find a number of other additional features as well as more images and templates that you can use in your designs.

3.3.8. Click on All Your Designs

3.3.8.1. This is where you will find all of the designs that you have created and you can click on them any time to edit them. You will also be able to create duplicates of them so you can edit them and make any slight changes and save as a new design.

3.3.9. Click on Shared With You

3.3.9.1. Here you will find any designs that you may be working on together with someone else or that someone has shared with you.

3.3.9.2. (You can also leave likes and comments here to provide feedback on these designs)

3.3.10. Click on create a team

3.3.10.1. If you would like to work together on designs with other people and create a team then this is where you can add team members by adding their email address and send them an invitation.

3.3.10.2. Note: You can have up to 10 team members (For more than 10 members you will need to upgrade to Canva for work)

3.3.11. Would you like any of the following features?

3.3.12. A branding kit for branding any of your designs?

3.3.13. Upload your own custom fonts?

3.3.14. Unlimited team members?

3.3.15. Unlimited design folders?

3.3.16. Photo folders for images?

3.3.17. Magic resizer?

3.3.18. If so then click the button to upgrade and get 30 days free.

3.3.19. Click on Your Brand (in left column)

3.3.19.1. Add your default branding such as your logo or company colours that you want to use throughout your designs.

3.3.20. Click Add A New Folder

3.3.20.1. You can create new folders to save designs or images related to different categories so as to make it easier for you or your team members to find them.

3.3.21. Click on Trash

3.3.22. To delete any designs

3.3.23. Click on Learn To Design

3.3.23.1. You will find a lot of useful information that will help you with many different elements of creating designs.

3.3.24. Click on Get Inspiration

3.3.24.1. Here you can find a huge range of different designs that other people have created and these may help give you ideas for your own designs.

3.3.25. Click on Custom Dimensions

3.3.25.1. In top right corner of the page, here you can add specific height and width to create a blank canvas of that size to create your designs on.

3.3.25.2. You can choose to enter dimensions as pixels, millimetres or inches.

3.3.25.3. Once you’ve done this hit the design button.

3.3.26. Click the + icon in top right corner

3.3.26.1. View all of Canva’s Ready-Made Design Templates that you can easily edit. You will find these in different categories such as;

4. 3. Createa Your Canva Profile

4.1. Click the drop-down arrow next to your name and select Personal Profile. In top right corner click edit info button.

4.1.1. Edit Your Information

4.1.1.1. Enter your name

4.1.1.2. Enter your tag i.e @marklaxton

4.1.1.3. Enter your website

4.1.1.4. Enter your Town

4.1.1.5. Enter your Country

4.1.1.6. Upload a profile image

4.1.1.6.1. Preferably upload a good quality picture of yourself. Find a picture of yourself from the folders on your computer, select the image and remember to save changes.

4.1.1.7. Have you shared your Canva profile on Social Media?

4.1.1.7.1. You can share your profile on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn and you will see these options below your profile details.

5. 4. Canva Design Tools

5.1. This checklist is designed to help you look through all of the available tools you can choose from within Canva. Check them off as you’ve looked through them and in later checklists we will go into more detail on how to use them.

5.2. Click on Create a Design button in top left corner.

5.2.1. Browse through all of the different design templates. (This are continually updated so you may find new one’s whenever you log in) You will also see the dimensions below each template when you hover the curser over it. Click on the Social Media Template 800x800 – We will use this template just to run through the different design tools. Look at the far-left column and you will find the following options;

5.2.2. Search

5.2.2.1. Click on the search box and search for images

5.2.2.1.1. You can search over 1 million royalty free images. You can filter the search results to show ALL, PHOTOS or ILLUSTRATIONS.

5.2.2.2. Enter the word of what images to search for

5.2.2.2.1. For example the word ‘Car’

5.2.2.3. Search FREE and PAID images

5.2.2.3.1. If you use any PAID images in your designs which cost $1 each the total will be displayed and need to be paid when you download your design.

5.3.1. Click on the search box and search for images

5.6.1. Click on text and look through all of the different text layouts you can choose from and you can select from 3 main text sizes (these can be adjusted from within your designs)

5.7. Backgrounds

5.7.1. Click on the document colours and see how you can move the cursor to find a colour.

5.7.1.1. If you already know or have a colour code you can enter it here.

5.7.2. Click on the colours in the default palette

5.7.3. Scroll through the different free and paid backgrounds which consist of different designs and colours.

5.8. Uploads

5.8.1. Click on the Canva logo to go back to the home page

5.8.2. Click on file and save to save your designs so you can find and edit them another time

5.8.3. Click on the undo and redo tabs if you make a mistake and want to go back to your last edit or click redo to go forwrd again back to where you last were with your design.

5.8.4. Click help to get help from support

5.8.5. Choose whether you want to display your design to public or not using the button in top right corner

5.8.6. Click on Share to share your design via email or on social media or you an copy the link and share it directly

5.8.7. Click on download and you will see you can download your designs in different formats including:

5.8.7.1. JPEG

5.8.7.2. PNG

5.8.7.3. PDF (STANDARD)

5.8.7.4. PDF (PRINT)

5.8.8. Then click the download button

6. 5. Layouts & Grids

6.1. Click on elements and then grids and scroll through and choose from a grid that you would like to use.

6.2. Click on the search box and enter a word you would like to search for images of.

6.3. Scroll through the images and click on one you would like to be added to your design.

6.4. This image will appear on your design, now click on it and hold the mouse button and drag it into a section of your grid.

6.5. Double click on the image after it has been placed in the grid to reposition it.

6.6. Click the checkmark once you’re happy with the new position of the image.

6.7. Use Image Filters

6.7.1. Click on the image you want to edit and then click on the filter tab above your canvas. Try these filters on your image, you will find several filters you can choose from Including;

6.7.1.1. Normal

6.7.1.2. Cali

6.7.1.3. Drama

6.7.1.4. Edge

6.7.1.5. Epic

6.7.1.6. Festive

6.7.1.7. Nordic

6.7.1.8. Greyscale

6.7.1.9. Retro

6.8. Click on Advanced Settings

6.8.1. Now adjust the following settings and see how they change your image;

6.8.1.1. Brightness

6.8.1.2. Contrast

6.8.1.3. Saturation

6.8.1.4. Tint

6.8.1.5. Blue

6.8.1.6. X-Process

6.8.1.7. Vignette

6.8.1.8. Crop your image

6.8.1.8.1. Click on the crop tab to crop the selected image

6.8.1.9. Flip your image

6.8.1.9.1. Click on the flip tab to flip the selected image horizontally or vertically

6.8.1.10. Change the spacing

6.8.1.10.1. Increase or decrease the spacing between each box within the grid by clicking on the spacing tab and then adjusting the slider.

6.8.1.11. Use a ready-made template

6.8.1.11.1. Scroll through all of the ready-made design templates and find one you like and click on it to add it to your canvas

6.8.1.12. Click on any element of the template to change it such as the background, image, text

6.8.1.13. Move an image forward or back within your design

6.8.1.14. Resize your image or text

6.8.1.14.1. Click and hold the corner of the box and move it to adjust it to how you want.

6.9. Edit the text;

6.9.1. Click on and highlight the text then choose from the tabs that appear above which include;

6.9.1.1. Font type

6.9.1.1.1. Choose different font types

6.9.1.2. Font size

6.9.1.2.1. Resize your font by selecting the one you want or typing in the size you want to use

6.10. Choose the colour of the font;

6.10.1. Choose whether you want your font to be bold or not

6.10.2. (some fonts cannot be changed to bold)

6.10.3. Choose whether you want your text to be italic

6.10.4. Select the alignment of your text to be left, centre or right

6.10.5. Select whether you want all of the letters to be capital or not by hitting the AA tab

6.10.6. Add bullet points by highlighting text or writing text when the bullet points tab is clicked or selected

6.10.7. Adjust text spacing

6.10.7.1. You can adjust spacing between letters or between words above and below each other

6.10.8. Copy images or text

6.10.8.1. A quick and easy way to add text is to click on the text then hit copy a duplicate will appear, you can then change the text and reposition it

6.10.9. Add links

6.10.9.1. You can also add a link to a webpage or any other link right inside your design by clicking on the link tab and inserting your link (note: this will only be a clickable link if the design is saved as a pdf)

7. 6. Canva Frames

7.1. Click on Elements and Frames

7.2. Scroll through the various frames

7.2.1. Notice how some are similar to grids but with some parts of the grid being solid colours

7.3. Select some of the other frame types

7.3.1. Click to add a frame to your canvas

7.4. Add an image to a frame

7.4.1. Go to uploads or search for an image and drag and drop it into the frame

7.5. Click on the different shape frames

7.5.1. ou can use these shape frames to create images such as your profile picture within a perfect circle, or your logo into a square with rounded corners etc.

7.6. Choose a window frame

7.6.1. Now drag and drop an image into the window frame and it appears as though it’s outside and being viewed through a window

7.7. Change the colour

7.7.1. You can change the colour of the window frame by simply clicking the colour box at the top and choosing your preferred colour.

7.8. Adjust the image

7.8.1. If you double click on the image within the window frame then you’ll see that you can re position it to where you want.

7.9. Then just click OK

8. 7. Canva Shapes & Lines

8.1. Click on Elements and then click on Shapes

8.2. Scroll down through all of the different shapes you can choose from and notice how some are solid colours and some are just a coloured boarder no colour in the centre

8.3. Create new page to create a new blank canvas

8.4. Create a new design

8.4.1. Click on a shape to add it to the blank canvas

8.5. Move the shape

8.5.1. Click and hold mouse down to move the position of the shape

8.6. Re-size the shape

8.6.1. Click in one of the corners and drag to re-size

8.7. Rotate the shape

8.7.1. Click the small circle icon at the base of the shape when selected to rotate the shape

8.8. Change the colour of the shape

8.8.1. Click the shape to highlight it and then click on the colour box above your design and choose from a default colour or use the colour palette to find different shades.

8.9. Note: Some shapes have more than one colour i.e a solid colour and another colour for the boarder, these can both be changed by selecting the relevant colour box above your design.

8.10. Adjust layers

8.10.1. Add 2-3 shapes to the canvas and overlap them. Now click on one to highlight it and you will see an ‘arrange’ tab appear, click on the arrange tab and then move the shape forward and backward and you will see it move behind or in front of the other Shapes.

8.11. Add Lines

8.11.1. You can also find a selection of different lines that you can add to your designs, just click on Elements and then Lines.

8.12. Select the line you want to use

8.12.1. Click on the line you want to add to your design

8.13. Resize the line

8.13.1. You can make the line longer, wider and you can rotate it.

9. 8. Canva Illustrations & Icons

9.1. Click on Elements and illustrations

9.2. Scroll down and take a look through all of the available illustrations, most of which are free.

9.3. Add an illustration to your blank canvas

9.4. Resize the illustration

9.5. Rotate the illustration

9.6. Copy the illustration

9.7. Note: You cannot change the colours for these illustrations

9.8. Now look through icons

9.8.1. Click on Elements and then click icons

9.9. Add an icon to your canvas

9.9.1. Click on the icon to add it to your design

9.10. Change icon colours

9.10.1. Play around with different colour combinations and change the colour of the background and icon etc

9.11. Add Social Media Links

9.11.1. Remember you can add links so if you’re creating a PDF you can add all of your social media links to get more followers!

10. 9. Canva Charts

10.1. Click on Elements and then click on Charts

10.1.1. Scroll down and view the available charts which include;

10.1.1.1. Bar charts

10.1.1.2. Line charts

10.1.1.3. Pie charts

10.1.1.4. Pyramid charts

10.2. Add a bar chart

10.2.1. Click on a chart to add it to your blank canvas

10.3. Resize and position the chart on your canvas

10.4. Edit the chart details

10.4.1. Double click on any of the white space within the chart

10.5. Change the label

10.5.1. You’ll see a column down the left hand side where you can change the label (this is the words along the bottom of the chart)

10.6. Change the values

10.6.1. (these are the numbers up the side of the chart)

10.7. Change the colour

10.7.1. You can change the colour of the bars within the bar chart

10.8. Add symbols or icons

10.8.1. Remember you can add other things to your charts such as symbols or icons to denote things like time or values such as money etc

10.9. Change font type

10.9.1. Doing this will change the font type of all the labels in the chart

10.10. Change font size

10.10.1. This will change the size of all the text within your chart.

10.11. Note: This is a great one to remember if you’re ever creating anything that needs to display statistics etc such as creating info-graphics

11. 10. I Love Canva and Valentines Graphics

11.1. Lastly within the Elements section you can let everyone know just how much you love Canva or send them some love by adding these graphics to your designs…

11.2. Click on Elements

11.3. Click on I Love Canva

11.4. Scroll through the various I love Canva graphics

11.5. Click one to add it to your canvas and position it to where you want

11.6. Click on the Valentines option

11.7. NOTE: These additional element features are consistently updated

11.8. Click on a heart illustration that you would like to use to add it to your design

11.9. Click the illustration to highlight it

11.10. Change the colours within different areas of this illustration

11.11. Resize it and position it to where it fits in your design such as on a postcard or invitation

12. 11. Adding Text on Canva

12.1. There are a lot of different types of text layouts and font types, sizes and colours you can add to your designs.

12.1.1. Choose the layout or custom size canvas you want to use

12.1.2. Choose whether you will be copy and pasting text or typing it straight into your design<

12.1.3. Choose from default size text and click on it to add it to your design;

12.1.4. Large

12.1.5. Medium

12.1.6. Small

12.1.7. Add a title

12.1.7.1. Click on the large text to add it to your canvas and type the title you want to use or paste in text that you have copied

12.1.8. Position title

12.1.8.1. Click and drag the title to where you want it in your design

12.1.9. Change the font type of the title

12.1.10. Change the font size of the title

12.1.11. Change the colour of the titl

12.1.12. Make your title all uppercase by clicking the AA tab above your design

12.1.13. Adjust the spacing in between the letters of your title

12.1.14. Add a sub-title

12.1.14.1. Do the same as before but this time click on the medium default text size

12.1.15. Add main text content

12.1.15.1. Now you can add the main text by clicking on the small default text and typing in your content or copy and paste whole paragraphs from existing content you have. If it doesn’t fit on the page then just add a new page and add the section that doesn’t fit to this new page or make the text smaller.

12.1.16. Add new text layout

12.1.16.1. You will also find lots of different text layouts that you can choose from that look great and you can simply change the colours in them, these are great for adding to social media posts etc.

12.1.17. Re-size text

12.1.17.1. When you click on the text to highlight it you can click and drag to resize all of the text at the same time so it all stays in proportion

12.1.18. Add badges

12.1.18.1. You will also find you can add badges or text with backgrounds to your designs. Try adding one of these now and change the text, font, colour, size and position.

13. 12. Canva Font Combinations

13.1. It’s important to pay attention to which fonts work well together in your designs as this alone can mak a big difference to how much attention they get fom people.

13.1.1. Click on the Text Element

13.1.2. Scroll down and add one of the many text layouts to your blank canvas

13.1.3. Click on one of the words in this layout and look at the font tab above your design to see the name of that font

13.1.4. Then click on the other word in this layout to see the name of the other font being used

13.1.5. Make a note of these 2 fonts as they are proven to work well together (these have been created by exprienced designers)

13.1.6. Try this FREE font combinations generator - https://www.canva.com/font-combinations/

13.1.7. Click on the search box to select a starter font

13.1.8. Scroll through the drop down and click on the font you’d like to start with (maybe you’re already using this and want to find a font that would work well with it?

13.1.9. Now take a look at an example of the 2 fonts being used together as a headline and written content. You will see the names of the 2 fonts below this. Make a note of these 2 font names as they are proven to work together and you can use them in your own designs.

14. 13. Canva Image Editor

14.1. Another great FREE tool you can use to make your photos and images stand out is Canva’s photo editor, you could use this before uploading your pictures to Canva or even sites like Instagram and Facebook

14.1.1. Go to https://www.canva.com/photo-editor/

14.1.2. Upload an image from your computer

14.1.3. Simply click the upload button or drag and drop an image from your computer onto this area

14.1.4. Click on each of the filters that appear and see how it changes your photo

14.1.5. You can choose from the following filters;

14.1.5.1. Normal

14.1.5.2. Blues

14.1.5.3. Edge

14.1.5.4. Selfie

14.1.5.5. Festive

14.1.5.6. Rosie

14.1.5.7. Drama

14.1.5.8. Epic

14.1.5.9. Greyscale

14.1.5.10. Nordic

14.1.5.11. Summer

14.1.5.12. Street

14.1.5.13. Retro

14.1.5.14. Whimsical

14.1.5.15. Cali

14.1.5.16. Adjust the brightness

14.1.5.17. Adjust the contrast

14.1.6. Crop your image

14.1.6.1. You can select a specific area of your image and crop the image to just show that area

14.1.7. Change the aspect ratio

14.1.7.1. You can choose to set your image to be displayed in different aspect ratios such as;

14.1.7.1.1. 1:1

14.1.7.1.2. 4:3

14.1.7.1.3. 3:2

14.1.7.1.4. 16:9

14.1.7.1.5. 2:1

14.1.8. Click on these aspect ratios and you will see the highlighted area change. Choose the one you want and hit apply

14.1.9. Resize your image

14.1.9.1. Use the resize feature to change the height and width and if you want to keep the aspect ratio then remember to check the box

14.1.10. Rotate your imag

14.1.10.1. Click on the rotate option and rotate your image clockwise or anti-Clockwise

14.1.11. Flip your image

14.1.11.1. Click on the flip option and flip your image horizontally or vertically

14.1.12. Once you have your image how you want it then click download

15. 14. Canva Colour Palette

15.1. If you’d like to find the colours and their colour codes within any image then you can use the free Canva colour palette

15.1.1. Go to https://www.canva.com/color-palette/

15.1.2. Click on the Upload an Image Button

15.1.3. Upload a picture from your computer

15.1.4. Take a look at the different colours displayed below your image

15.1.5. Make a note of the colour name (just click on copy)

15.1.6. Make a note of the colour code (just click on copy)

15.1.7. You can then use these colour codes by pasting them in the Canva palette when your choosing colours to use in your designs

16. 15. Continue Saved Canva Designs

16.1. When you create designs in Canva you will find that sometimes you don’t have time to finish them. Canva automatically saves your designs so that you can continue with them in future

16.1.1. Save your designs

16.1.1.1. You can also ensure your designs are saved by clicking on File in top left corner and then save

16.1.2. Click on any design in your dashboard to open it and continue working on it

16.1.3. Copy your designs
