1. Forces in balance

1.1. Vectors and scalars

1.1.1. - displacement is distance in a given direction - a vector quantity is a physical quantity which has a magnitude and direction - a scalar quantity has magnitude but no direction

1.1.1.1. Forces between objects

1.1.1.1.1. - forces can change the shape of an object and it can also change it's motion - the unit of force is in Newton's (N)

1.1.1.1.2. - a contact force is a force that acts on objects only when the objects touch each other - when two objects interact, they always exert equal and opposite forces on each other

2. Resultant forces

2.1. - the resultant force is a single force that has the same effect as all the forces acting on an object
