7. The Creation accounts in the first chapters of the Book of Genesis reveal important truths about the role justice plays in God’s plan for human beings. The first truth is that God has given human beings a share of his divine life, creating us “in the divine image” (Genesis 1:27). We see further evi- dence for this truth in the second Creation account, when God shared his divine breath with the first man in order to bring him to life (see 2:7). Because human beings share in God’s life, we are unique among all creatures; each human life has great value. Therefore justice requires us to recognize and respect the divine presence in every human being (see Matthew 25:37–40).
