My perceptions by Mind Map: My perceptions

1. What excites me?So many things excite me about the new workshops and the PYP framework. Having agency as a central concept in this new PYP framework encourages us as workshop leaders and PYP teachers (my case) to collaborate not only among ourselves, but also with the school community and stakeholders. I think the idea of having the learners reflecting throughout the workshop generate authentic actions giving them ownership of their learning and allowing them to analyze in depth their needs as professionals. This way, the workshop will really be beneficial and fulfilled each participant needs. Developing the teachers’ capabilities also empower the workshop participants with their learning and teaching. I think that as a workshop leader I will like to see that in practice.

2. What else do I need to find out? Who could help? During this course I have familiarized myself with all the new documents (IB Resource Library, & WRC), but I feel I need a lot more time to go back and revise all the new PYP framework information and take a closer look on the workshops cat 1, 2, & 3 in order to understand it in depth. I also believe that if I would have the chance to participate in a FTF workshop that goes into depth on all the new enhancements it would help me.

3. What worries me? I worry about all the new technology tools and the design of the workshop shifting from FTF to only an online platform. I will have to learn and familiarize myself with all the new technology and collaborate with other workshop leaders with more experience so that I can make progress on that. I would benefit to take technology classes to master all the new technology tools. This will make feel comfortable facilitating the new workshops.

4. What are the next steps? I will revisit (as many times as needed) all the materials covered during this workshop. I would like to have a discussion group with my coworkers (that also participated in this workshop) once a week so that we can have meaningful discussion about the new workshops and PS&P. Collaborating with each other will support our learning and generate opportunities to find answers for our questions. Also, collaborate with other workshop leaders so that we can learn from each other.

5. Reflective question - I think that I have learned a lot during the workshop. The reflection questions helped me to see where I stand with my knowledge and understandings of the changes. I feel that I went over a lot of information in a very short space of time. When I was doing the learning engagements, at first I thought I was mastering everything, but it was through the reflection process that I realized how much more I needed to learn and how many questions I still have. The reflection process also helped me better understand my needs and what I need to do to became a better teacher and workshop leader. I must say that the English written academic language was a challenge to me (since Portuguese and French are my mother tongue languages), but I feel that I improved during the course of the workshop. Sometimes I was a little jealous of the native speaker’ vocabulary. Many times it was hard to express myself exactly how I wanted. One thing that helped quite a bit was to read the others participants’ reflections and answers. It gave me a better view of everything that we were learning.
