2. ***Leaders & Presidents*** What makes an effective or ineffective leader?

2.1. JFK - Assassinated by whom is known as Lee Harvey Oswald

2.2. MLK and Malcom X - many times civil rights leaders are assassinated because they are seen as a threat to status quo. just because you killed the person doesn't mean you killed the ideas.

2.3. Vietnam -

2.3.1. Hamburger Hill - hamburger hill raid was an absolute mess. a huge percent of our troops were lost trying to gain this hill which was a huge advantage and looked over the ho chi minh trail being a huge high ground opportunity. Capturing the hill was not a mistake but what was done after was. Shortly after capturing the hill, the troops retreated and headed back making the entire raid a complete waste of time and lives

3. ***Government:*** What is the role and responsibility of the American government?

3.1. Prohibition - When government tries to make popular drugs illegal they lose control of the trade

3.2. New Deal - When the government tries to fix the economy it is very expensive and will increase debt

3.3. Great Society - When the government creates large welfare programs and decreases taxes the government debt will increase

4. ***Civil Rights:*** To what extent have the oppressed in America been able to attain an equality of life?

4.1. Holocaust - When America does not respond to a violation of human rights that violation will grow worse

4.2. Civil Rights Movement - Freedom riders and walk ins fueled this movement to give freedom to all. non violence really fueled the movement to all, reason being it was getting so much attention (non violence)

4.3. Black Panthers - would follow around the police and use self defense tactics, however was not successful due to the shootout. lesson being aggressive tactics against the government can fail if they are an inferior force

5. ***Technology*** How does technology impact society?

5.1. 1960 Debate - TV has changed the type of candidate that is running for president

6. ***Foreign Relations*** How have foreign entanglements influence America?

6.1. Forming Allies can draw the country into a broader conflict

6.2. When the US is involved in world affairs to a large extent, it is hard to be neutral if a major conflict breaks out

6.3. Cuban Missile Crisis - The US needs to compromise on foreign affairs to get results

6.4.1. vietnamization -

6.4.1.1. the process of replacing american troops with south Vietnamese troops. this was a horrible move, all of the troops got mowed down in a short amount of time. What should have been done differently is just not use other countries troops at all, and just withdrawn usa's troops and stayed out

7. ***Economics:*** How has economics impacted America & Americans?

7.1. People were spending money they didn't have

7.2. People bought stocks and credit.. if the stocks failed people stop paying their loans

7.3. Overproduction , if companys fail the jobs fail and people cant buy things and then other jobs fail

7.4. Debt - when debt is too high and savings are too low people will struggle during bad times and they cannot pay their debt and no one has savings to fall back on

8. ***Migration*** What causes migration and how has it impacted America?

8.1. When African Americans migrated to northern cities they were able to form their own culture and express that culture

9. ***Media*** To what extent does the media influence people? To what extent does the media mirror or reflect society?

9.1. Black people got beat up on purpose to get it on tv and improve public opinion

9.2. Vietnam

9.2.1. Soldiers returning home - When soldiers returned home from vietnam they were treated absolutely terrible by the us citizens. They were shunned boo'd and not offered rides. They took all of the blame when all they did was follow the orders of their leaders.
