1. ***Foreign Relations*** How have foreign entanglements influence America?

1.1. World War 1

1.1.1. When the US is involved in world affairs to a large extent, it is hard to stay neutral if a major conflict breaks out.

1.1.2. Forming allies can draw the countries into a broader conflict.

1.1.3. It was hard to stay neutral since we were already involved in many foreign relations

1.2. Great Depression

1.2.1. During bad times, governments/countries may be able to focus on international affairs/conflicts.

2. ***Media*** To what extent does the media influence people?

2.1. Emmitt Till

2.1.1. His open casket put a perspective about how blacks were treated.

2.2. Vietnam War

2.2.1. When the president lies to the nation about war related situations, it causes the citizens to lose trust in the government. His phone call was discovered and it exposed him lying on the phone.

2.2.2. Built up stress during the war causes soldiers to kill innocent people which looks terrible by everyone in the world and provokes hatred toward them. The soldiers could not take it anymore and eventually snapped and killed innocent people which looked terrible on the USA's part.

3. ***Economics:*** How has economics impacted America & Americans?

3.1. Working Class

3.1.1. When the working class got paid more and worked less, they had more time for leisure.

3.2. Great Depression

3.2.1. When the New Deal was created to fix the economics problem, it cost a lot of money and government debt increased.

3.2.2. When the banks lose money and fail, all money is lost which causes the stock market to crash.

4. ***Government:*** What is the role and responsibility of the American government?

4.1. Prohibition

4.1.1. When the government tried to enforce prohibition, it led to failure.

4.1.2. Creating unpopular laws are hard to enforce.

4.1.3. When the government tries to ban popular things, it is not effective and costly

4.2. New Deal

4.2.1. When many jobs are given out to millions of people to work for the government, money is not made, but lost.

4.3. Great Depression

4.3.1. During bad times, people's political views will turn more radical.

4.3.2. During bad times, people will start to favor more democratic or socialist forms of government.

4.4. Great Society

4.4.1. When the government decreases taxes and creates large social problems, debt will increase.

4.5. Vietnam

4.5.1. When the president is not sure why we are going to war, it gives the citizens very little hope in winning the war.

4.5.2. Losing a war to a third world country which should have been won caused soldiers to be depressed and dishonored. Many soldiers felt like they were a disgrace and nobody had respect for them. In fact, they were basically ignored and put to shame for their service and some even threw away their service medals.

4.5.3. When containing a country is failed, people lose hope and trust and it is viewed as a loss in war. After the US lost to Vietnam, communism spread which was the opposite of their goal. This makes it look like they are not strong by losing to a third world country.

5. ***Technology*** How does technology impact society?

5.1. Credit

5.1.1. Using credit would cause may people to go into debt.

5.2. Radio

5.2.1. When you have new technologies like the radio, it interconnects us all as a country

5.3. World War I Warfare

5.3.1. Due to advancements in technology, it changed the way war was fought and the world was not ready for it.

5.4. Television

5.4.1. Seeing candidates appearence changes the outcomes of elections.

5.5. Transportation

5.5.1. The addition of interstate highways improved the economy and lives.

6. ***Civil Rights:*** To what extent have the oppressed in America been able to attain an equality of life?

6.1. African Americans/Civil Rights

6.1.1. During times of war, we always see civil rights improve.

6.2. Women's Progression

6.2.1. Women started to challenge and became more independent and free.

6.3. Civil Rights Protest

6.3.1. Civil Disobedience was the most effective way to end segregation.

6.4. Civil Rights Movement

6.4.1. When a movement challenges a status quo they will be reluctant to change

6.5. Black Panthers

6.5.1. If a movement is not making any gains, it can evolve to more aggressive tactics.

6.5.2. Movements that blow up quickly can be shot down quickly

7. ***Migration*** What causes migration and how has it impacted America?

7.1. Harlem Renaissance/Great Migration

7.1.1. When different cultures collide, it provides a fun atmosphere for people around.

8. ***Leaders & Presidents*** What makes an effective or ineffective leader?

8.1. FDR vs Hoover

8.1.1. When a country fails, it is blamed for either president by opposing political sides.

8.2. Assassinations

8.2.1. Just because a person is killed does not mean their idea is killed off.

8.3. JFK

8.3.1. When a president is faced with a tough decision they need to act calm and take their time. Need to compromise.
