PYP Upskilling Reflection by Mind Map: PYP Upskilling Reflection

1. What worries you about these publications/workshops? What personal learning do you need to do to alleviate any concerns?

1.1. I don't really feel worried about any of just curious. I know I will need to spend more time revisiting these publications as I begin to apply it more and more to my classroom and workshops.

2. Stance/Moving forwardWhat are your next steps to ensure you are as informed as possible about the enhanced PYP framework, the new PS&P and the changes to workshops?

2.1. I want to start by preparing for my upcoming workshop. It is sort of a project based learning for me. The last assignment that we did really got me thinking about what I want to dig more into. I want to spend more time revisiting the PS&P as well as the Principles into Practice. This should help consolidate my understanding. I also want to look more at the new graphics and what I should put into the workshops. I do think I will try to redesign the workshop to follow the Design thinking process. Then I would like to apply to lead a new workshop so that I could learn more about them.

3. Need to know

3.1. I will want to stay in contact with other IBEN members about their experiences with the enhanced PYP and leading new and enhanced workshops. I will have questions as I work through these changes. Therefor, it will be important to build and maintain that collaborative network.

4. What excites you about the PYP framework, PS&P and the new workshops

4.1. I am excited about a lot of it to be honest but what most excites me is the increased emphasis on agency. I am excited about how so many enhancements work together to support student agency. It is not just a buzz word, it is really thought out. For example the way that assessment is explained now really focuses on giving students ownership of their learning which of course supports agency. I am excited about the emphasis on translanguaging. I am also really excited about changes to the workshop design. More focus on participant agency and self reflection throughout. I love the use of reflective threads. I like how the workshops incorporate teacher competencies into the Learning Intentions.

5. How has your thinking around the reflective question prompts evolved over the course of this workshop?

5.1. How will my response to by the enhanced PYP framework and the revised programme standards and practices, shape the perspective of PYP educators and schools I support as an IB educator?

5.1.1. I think the assignment we did around the stages and implications of change was really eye opening for this. It gave me empathy for how others may deal with the psychological affects of change. I tend to jump right in to new ideas that I think will be good and I expect the same from others. But this workshop will help me to slow down and be patient with my co workers and workshop participants that might not be so excited about change.

5.2. What are the implications for moving to a different model of workshop design and facilitation?

5.2.1. It isn't huge changes like I originally thought their might be but there will be a lot of thought that goes into purposefully redesigning workshops so that they fit the new model. I like that the workshop design of how we "teach" participants is consistent with the PYP view of how we "teach" students . A focus on concepts, reflection and agency instead of delivery of information.

5.3. How can I further cultivate agency (voice, choice and ownership) among members of the PYP global community of practice?

5.3.1. I need to be active again in the IB rebel alliance. I need to continue to engage with other teachers and coordinators who are interested in agency through Twitter, Skype, blogs and in person.
