How to spot fake news

1. Check thee domain. Fake news sites often add .co
2. If you land on an unknown site check its "About" page. Then google the site with the word fake and see what come up.
3. If a story offers links follow the. No links, quotes or references? Probably not a good website.
4. Check the date. Social media often resurrects outdated stories.
5. Photos might be misidentified and dated. Use a reverse image search engine like TinEye to see where the image really comes from.
6. If you're not sure, DON'T SHARE IT!!
7. Big red flags for fake news: ALL CAPS or obvious photo-shopped pics.
8. Pop-up and banner ads. Good sign the story is pure clickbait.
9. Verify an unlikely story by finding a reputable outlet reporting the same thing.
10. Read past headlines. Often they bear no resemblance to what lies beneath.
11. Gut check. If a story makes you angry, it's probably designed that way.
