What is Technology?

1. After reading the module and watching videos a new definition of technology surfaced, which was deeper than what I had thought. According to Kumar, Kumar, & Persuade (1999) "technology has two primary components: 1) a physical component which comprises of items such as products, tooling, equipment, blueprints, techniques, and processes; and 2) the informational component which consists of know-how in management, marketing, production, quality control, reliability, skilled labor and functional areas" (What is Technology from module 1). It makes very hard for us because we are not looking at the depth of technology, but it is tough to find the definition and has many different things at several times. I saw a video of Microsoft’s 2014 Superbowl commercial from module 1 that a person who has special needs like Stephen Hawking, who for a major part of his life, was not able to walk, speak, eat or do anything on his own because of his paralysis developed a wheel chair like. That is what technology is in my opinion.

2. In conclusion I believe that technology is a combination of both physical and electric attributes combined with mechanics. It is an important tool that will advance human life and better for life. Advantage of self driving car is 1. Self driving car can be reduced traffic accidents which is avoid of accidents. 2. Number of accidents is reduced; less people would be injured but the vehicle will be damaged. 3. Save electricity bill from solar powered on the roofs which is connect to electric vehicle. Disadvantage of self driving car is 1. Higher cost of all electric vehicle for self driving like Tesla’s car manufacturer. 2. Self driving car will be out of control itself.

3. Before this course, I thought technology was a tool that supports or helps any person with many tasks, for example cars, personal computers, TV, internet, video games or any type of electronic gadget and so on that keeps growing and adjusting to humans. “Technology is the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area; a capability given by the practical application of knowledge” for example cars nowadays have the latest in fuel-saving technology. 4. “It has to be understood that limiting technology to high-tech industries such as computers, superconductivity, chips, genetic engineering, robotics, magnetic railway and so on focuses excessive attention on what the media consider newsworthy.” (Gaynor, 1996). Gaynor is observing that technology is not what is aforementioned but also, present in factories, shops, restaurants and hospitals catering towards helping customers and patients in speeding up of certain processes, for example in a hospital, technological equipment monitors patients’ health to let a doctor know of any precautions or measures or complications.
