1. Lesson One (Map)

1.1. Objectives

1.1.1. Students will research one animal in Canada.

1.1.2. Students will create a pin for the animal on the map.

1.1.3. Students willl discover that there are sub-species within a species.

1.2. Notes

1.2.1. Map Lesson

1.2.2. Students will create a map together and post a write up about a Canadian animal and pin it on the map accordingly.

1.2.3. Students will learn about the diversity of animals that live in Canada.

1.2.4. Manitoba Curriculum Grade 6 Cluster One Diversity of Living Things.

1.2.5. After explaining to the students that there are sub-species within a species and explaining how it works. I will provide directions on how to use the interactive map. First I will show them my Polar Bear example and then I will do a walk through of how to put a pin on the map.

1.2.6. The way I would evaluate students on this assignment would be through a rubric.

1.3. Resources

1.3.1. Google Maps, Manitoba Curriculum in Grade 6 Science, and ICT Continuum.

1.3.2. Nation Geographic for Kids- Idea for interactive map. Explore the World!

1.4. Prerequisites

1.4.1. Go over what students already know about the diversity of living things and their ecosystems (Grade 4).

1.4.2. Build students knowledge on the diversity of living things.

1.4.3. The context of the lesson is to teach students that there are classification systems around us.

2. Lesson Two (Podcast)

2.1. Objectives

2.1.1. Explain that there are Five Kingdoms to classifying living things.

2.1.2. Go over each kingdom and explain characteristics of the organisms within them.

2.2. Notes

2.2.1. The Five Kingdoms

2.2.2. To educate students about living things and the kingdoms they are classified in.

2.2.3. To educate students that there are more than two ways to classify living organisms.

2.2.4. After listening to my example that briefly describes The Five Kingdoms, students will choose an organism from one and make a Podcast about it.

2.2.5. I would take a class and go over with students how to make a Podcast and the websites and tools that they can use to do so.

2.2.6. The tool for evaluation would be to use a met and not met checklist of criteria that their Podcasts would have to have.

2.3. Resources

2.3.1. Students will need a device that they are able to record their podcast on. As well as the Manitoba Curriculum in Grade 6 Science, and ICT Continuum. Diversity of Living Things Workshop Package Grade 6 Science.

2.3.2. Angela Bayduza (Teacher)

2.4. Prerequisites

2.4.1. Go over how to create a Podcast with the class.

2.4.2. The goal is for students to be able to not only research characteristics for each kingdom but also be able to present it by making a Podcast.

2.4.3. The context of this assignment would be to not only teach the students about science related material but as well as how to use technology responsibly.

3. Lesson Three (Video)

3.1. Objectives

3.1.1. Show students how to make a shared google slides document.

3.2. Notes

3.2.1. Making a Shared Document

3.2.2. The goal of this lesson is to educate students on how to make a collaborative document within Google docs for their assignment.

3.2.3. Show students how to make a shared google slides document.

3.2.4. The students will receive a link to their school emails of the video that is a step by step instruction on how to use Google Slides. This will be used in their collaborative lesson.

3.2.5. A checklist of if they watched the video or not.

3.3. Resources

3.3.1. Students will need a computer. ICT Continuum

3.4. Prerequisites

3.4.1. We will review how to make a slide show in Microsoft Powerpoint and relate that to the Google version.

3.4.2. The goal is to get students comfortable using collaborative technology.

4. Lesson Four (Collaborative)

4.1. Objectives

4.1.1. Have students learn to work on a project collaboratively.

4.1.2. Understand the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates.

4.1.3. Students will research a vertebrate or an invertibrate and explain why it is defined as that as well as where it fits in the Animal Kingdom.

4.2. Notes

4.2.1. Collaborative Lesson

4.2.2. The goal of this lesson is to have students work on a project collaboratively relating to a topic we are discussing in science.

4.2.3. Students will research a vertebrate or an invertibrate and explain why it is defined as that as well as where it fits in the Animal Kingdom.

4.2.4. I will explain in class that we, as a class, are going to make a presentation about vertebrates and invertebrates.

4.2.5. The form of evaluation would be that I would look at the students individual work within the document and just a rubric grading.

4.3. Resources

4.3.1. Google Docs Computer or iPad, Manitoba Grade 6 Science Curriculum Cluster One: Diversity of Living Things, ICT Continuum.

4.3.2. Individual work, teacher help.

4.3.3. Computer Lab, home

4.4. Prerequisites

4.4.1. Go back and review the animal kingdom so they can find where the vertebrae and invertebrates.

4.4.2. The goal of this lesson is to educated students about another way of classifying animals in the animal kingdom. Another goal is to get students to work collaboratively, as this is a life skill.
