1. Why is it important that we have strong vocabulary?

1.1. One important reason to have a strong vocabulary is for communication. When you are talking with peers or adults, vocabulary plays a big role in your conversation. In order to effectively communicate with somebody, both people have to understand each other. By having a large range of vocabulary, it ensures understanding and benefits both people within the conversation.

1.2. Another important reason to have a strong vocabulary is for language. You may have always spoke English, but one of your friends could just be learning English. Having a strong sense of vocabulary would benefit both people within the conversation because the native English speaker may know words that the non native English speaker knows to have a meaningful conversation.

2. How do you use vocabulary words?

2.1. When you learn new vocabulary words, there are three important strategies to help you familiarize yourself with those words.

2.1.1. The first strategy is to define the vocabulary words. You can define the vocabulary words by using your resources that we have talked about. It is important to define the vocabulary words so you know what they mean.

2.1.2. The second strategy is to draw a picture that uses the vocabulary word. Drawing a picture of the word can help you visualize its purpose and better understand its meaning.

2.1.3. The third strategy is to use the vocabulary word in a sentence. Using the vocabulary word in a sentence will help you understand when its appropriate to use the word and how to use the word in conversations.

4. How do we learn information about new words?

4.1. When you are looking for the definition to a new word, you can use resources. Resources can help you learn the context of new information. What kinds of vocabulary resources are there?

4.1.1. One type of resource is called a dictionary. Whenever you do not know what a word means, you can simply look for that word in the dictionary. The definitions of the words are listed in alphabetical order, meaning that the dictionary starts with words that begin with the letter A and ends with words that begin with the letter Z.

4.1.2. Another type of vocabulary resource is the internet. If you do not have access to a dictionary or want to save time, you can simply type in "define" and the word you're looking for and a definition will pop up.
