1. Design

1.1. Project planning is all about handling people. In addition those people will need resources to carry out their jobs. There are a number of different project planning tools which will be used during this stage in order to effectively plan out the project, timescale and the resources required

2. Requirement Analysis

2.1. Requirements analysis encompasses those tasks that go into determining the needs or conditions to meet for a new or altered product or project,

3. Implementation/Coding

3.1. Once the design stage has been completed the software developers can begin to write the code. The system could either be completely bespoke with every line of code being written by specialist programmers or it could be developed from an 'off-the-shelf' application.

4. Testing

4.1. Once the system has been developed it must be tested to ensure that it is working as expected.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Corrective maintenance is where problems are rectified after the system has been installed.

5.2. Adaptive maintenance is done when external factors have caused issues to arise with a product.

5.3. Perfective maintenance is when the end will find minor improvements which could be made to improve the way the system works.
