1. Formative

1.1. Definition: Process of gathering evidence of student learning.

1.2. Examples: 3-2-1 assignment, exit ticket, think pair share

2. Interim/Benchmark

2.1. Definition: A type of an assessment a teacher would use occasionally to see if the students are on pace for getting the curriculum through the end of the year.

2.2. Examples: 6 or 9 week assessment, quiz halfway through the unit to see if students will be ready for the Unit Test in time

3. Summative

3.1. Definition: A type of test that measures the knowledge of students after going through an entire unit.

3.2. Examples: 6 week Test, STAAR Test, Semester Final

4. Performance

4.1. Definition: Students have to perform a certain task to exemplify the skills learned from a unit or lesson. It is not so much of a written multiple choice test.

4.2. Examples: hands-on creation project, portfolio, presentation

5. Diagnostic

5.1. Definition: A teacher can give this kind of assessment to see where the strengths and weaknesses are of the students before starting a unit.

5.2. Examples: Pre-test, survey, KWL

6. Opening Questions:

6.2. Are all natural numbers whole numbers?

7. Guiding Questions:

7.1. What is the first step in multiplying 9/4 and 7/3?

7.2. Solve 9.35 x 17 1/3

8. Closing Questions:

8.1. Create a word problem containing two different types of rational numbers.

8.2. What are examples of similarities and differences between rational and irrational numbers?
