VITITEAUX: According to research passed on through David Vidato and his uncle Horace Vidato, Vititeaux is the original spelling of the last name we now know to be Vidato, Vitatoe, Vitto, and many more. David's research suggests that this name originally comes from France. Genetic testing however, points to a British and Irish connection amongst the Vititeauxs of Louisiana. This family tree represents the lineage of these three descendants, traced the the census records of New Iberia Louisiana. The connection between Vidato to Vitatoes and Vittos is unknown; however, genetic testing done through 23 and me have connected the author of this family tree, Bobby Vitatoe, and Xane Vidato. The families are therfore related, albeit distantly, but how so, is still a mystery. The census records do not precede the abolition of slavery in 1850, which is around the time the oldest ancestors of these last names were born (Hannah Falls and Nelson Vitatoe.) It is however unlikely that the first husband of Hannah Falls (unkown), and Nelson Vitatoe were connected somehow, either through blood, a plantation they were owned by, or both. Another possibility is that her last name at birth, was some variation or Vititeaux. Although research preceding slavery is hard to come by, there is a small amount of evidence which suggests Nelson may have had a father named Hillery Vidito (or some other spelling variation) and a mother named Beggie Carolina Niekson. Documentation does confirm that these two individuals existed, Hillery, at the least, was the father of an early Vidito named Ella. This documentation does not confirm that they were of any relation to Nelson Pawnee Vittitoe. On the left, you will find the Vidatos, on the right, you will find the Vitatoes and Vittos. This family tree was started by Bobby Vitatoe and with the help of his son, also named Bobby Vitatoe. 1. Hannah Falls (born 1865), original husband unknown. 2nd husband: Berley Falls. Though she holds the last name falls, Hannah is the oldest Ancestor of the Vidato lineage, giving birth to the first census recorded Vidatos. It is unknown (at least by record) who the first father of her children were, though she later remarried and had children with Berley, a Swamping Laborer. Due to the date of her birth, it is possible and likely that her parents were slaves, or that she may have been a slave herself, released by the Vititeaux plantation owners. The trail of Vidato ancestors cannot be traced beyond her in the census records. She is the second oldest African American recorded in the Vititeaux lineage, of New Iberia Louisiana. Her employment status is stated as that of Watchmen.

2. Nelson Pawnee Vittitoe- Born: 1857, 7/14/1924, (2nd wife: Mary Simon Vitatoe, 1875- 7/12/1950), 1st wife: Sarahann Goffney Vidito). Nelson is the first, census recorded ancestor of the Vitatoe, and Vitto, lineage. Because of the date of his birth, it is possible and likely that he was the son of at least one slave (both he and his wife Sarahann are recorded in the census as Mullato, or mixed with white and black). The African American lineage of Vititeaux (in New Iberia Louisiana) and it's various spellings, cannot be linked in the form of a family household before him. His occupation was that of a Farmer.

3. Ella Vidito 1873 (1st husband:Andrew Thomas, 2nd husband Marshall Curtis). What is confirmed is that she was that she spelled her name in one of the many Vidito variations before being married, and that her father, Hillery, also spelled his name in one of the Vidato variations.
