2. Step 9: Works Cited

2.1. Because you are researching documents to use in your paper, you will need to cite them.

2.2. The documents will need to be put onto their own separate page and put into order using APA.

2.2.1. APA is a way that a paper can be organized.

2.3. This means that you will have this set up for books:

2.3.1. Last name, Firstname

2.3.2. Title of Book.

2.3.3. Place of Publication

2.3.4. Publisher

2.3.5. Year of Publication

3. Step 1: Think

3.1. Asking yourself key questions will help you write a good paper and enjoy doing it!

3.1.2. What are the guidelines?

3.1.3. What are you interested in?

3.1.4. Do you think you will be able to find a lot of information?

4.1. Finding as much information as possible is the key to writing a research paper…So start looking!

5. Step 3: Read and Take Notes

5.1. Read the information before and while you write your paper.

5.1.1. This will keep the information new in your mind while you write.

5.1.2. If you take notes while reading, you will remember what is important to the paper

6. Step 4: Brainstorm

6.1. Organize your information into sections

6.2. Make a chart

6.3. Write down notes

6.4. See what is important and what can be taken out

7. Step 5: Thesis

7.1. A thesis is the main thing that you want to prove in your paper.

7.2. It should be one or two sentences long.

7.3. It should go near the end of your introduction paragraph.

7.4. It let’s the reader know what the rest of the paper is about.

7.5. Without it, you do NOT have a research paper.

8. Step 6: Introduction

8.1. Draws the reader in

8.2. Tells them what they will be reading about

8.3. First sentence MUST be interesting-find a fact, ask a question, or use a quote

8.5. Should be about five sentences

9. Step 7: Body

9.1. You should have at least one paragraph for each article researched

9.2. Each paragraph should have at least five sentences

9.3. If you repeat something that the author said, you MUST cite it (you will learn more about this later)

10. Step 8: Conclusion

10.1. You’re almost done!

10.2. A conclusion wraps up your paper

10.3. You should NOT introduce anything new

10.4. Using one sentence about each paragraph, summarize what you talked about

10.5. Try to connect the last sentence with your very first sentence
