1. Using someone elses work to inspire something you made is somewhat legal but it is better if you give credit to the person you took inspiration from as it gives you a lesser chance of going to court.
2. It is not always necessary to give credit, sometimes some creators allow others to modify their work for free, this doesnt always happen but you should still credit to the original creators.
3. To directly use someone's work, it is best that you ask for their permission as if you don't then it is considered illegal.
4. Always give credit to someone's work, even if it is free to mdify. Doing this will get you out of further problems with the law and save much more time and money.
