1. How did white people in the South view slaves?

1.1. How did they justify slavery - They justified slavery by the amount of work that they needed to have finished and the amount of people that they needed to run their large farms.

1.2. The people in the south viewed slaves as a way to help with their industrial development. But there were more free Africans than there were slaved ones.

2. 4 famous slaves and tell us about them.

2.1. Henry “Box” Brown; after his family had been shipped away, he planned to ship himself overseas. He did this with the help if a free black man and on March 23, 1849, he squashed himself into a small box that was labelled dry goods.

2.2. Frederick Douglass ; this man got a sailors uniform and escaped where he was being held and caught a train. He had to face many obstacles as people were looking for him and he still managed to get away.

2.3. Robert Smalls ; this man lead a group of slaves to taking over a ship and steering it back to were his family was. His fight lead to black men being recognised as being good soldiers.

2.4. Harriet Jacobs ; this lady was being held captive as a plantation and was being abused by the owner. She had two chins and made a run for it and escaped to a friends house were she hid in a coffin like space for 7 years while she watched her children play outside.

3. What were abolitionists and what did they believe?

3.1. When was slavery abolished/ what happened to freed slaves?

3.1.1. Slavery was abolished on 27 April 1848 and millions of slaves were freed. this freedom did lead to many cases of starvation and deaths because they had no money, no where to go and no family.

3.2. Abolitionist are people who believed that slavery was a sin and as an American you should be wanting to ban it all together.

4. How were slaves allocated to owners?

4.1. Where were they taken and what jobs did they do?

4.1.1. The types of jobs they would be enquired to do is mostly farming, butchering, bakery, mining and many more.

4.2. In the US time of slavery, slaves were allocated to their owners as they would be put up for sale. They would usually label them as negro wenches, usually describing their age and what they do for working.

5.1. What places in the world still have slavery? What do we know about slavery in the USA?

5.1.1. Places like India, china, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan still hold a large number of slavery within there country. In the northern states of the USA, slavery is most down due to their hard city work, bad sanitation, safety issues, health problem etc.

5.2. Slavery is a group of people that someone has power over in which they work very hard to perform tasks without proper appreciation.

6. What was the lifestyle that a white plantation owning family could expect during the era of slavery?

6.1. Was it different between males and females? - Young males would study during the winter and autumn to Mae sure they were ready to work in the summer and spring. The girls would study in the summer and spring to make sure they would could allow time for weaving in the winter.

6.2. The families that owned these plantations were usually very wealthy. the owners would usually still work during the day but suit their hours to their needs, meaning they had plenty of time for the leisure and family time.

7. Which African countries did slaves come from?

7.1. How were they captured and transported back to the USA?

7.1.1. Most of africans who were enslaved were captured during battles, kidnapped or were put into slavery as punishment. They were transported to the US on slaves ships which would carry hundreds of slaves on the passage. And the conditions of these ships were poor as they had little space and were chained tightly together and were forced to sleep on the blank beds.

7.2. Africans whom arrived in the united states mainly came from the Gambia, guinea, Senegal and mainly west Africa.

8. How were slaves treated?

8.1. What laws and rules did they have to abide by?

8.1.1. Slaves were mostly under the control of their 'owners'. No slave was allowed to own any land and if they worked at a plantation, then they would usually have a curfew. Also, if any slaves were accused of crime against a white person, then they were to blamed without any evidence. For slaves, it was also illegal for anyone to teach them how to read or write.

8.2. When slaves were being transported over, children were forced to be separated from parents and husbands were forced to be separated from their wives. They were also forced to sleep and stay in bad conditions when being transported over.
