1. BEFORE

1.1. Macedonia is a Federation in the mountains of the Greek penisula

1.1.1. A federation is a union of cities with a certain degree of indipendence, with different laws but ruled by the same king

1.3. They have a king, who is elected from an assembly of aristocratic warriors

2. In 359 bc Philip II becomes king, who wants to expand his territories

2.1. INSIDE MACEDONIA

2.1.1. Efficient army with the MACEDONIAN PHALANX

2.1.2. Strengthened monarchy, weaking aristocracy

2.2. OUTSIDE MACEDONIA

2.2.1. They make New useful alliances

2.2.2. They conquer nearby states

2.2.3. Made sure to be perceived by many Greeks as the one who could help them manage their internal struggles

2.3. THE HOLY WAR 356-346 BC is a war between Tebe and Phocis to control the Amphictyonic League of Delphi : Macedonia Stays with Tebe who wins

2.3.1. MACEDONIA BECOMES PART OF THE DELPHI'S LEAGUE

3. Philip II in 339 bc occupies the central part of Greece, interveining in another war, and now the intentions of conquer are clear

3.1. Athens creates an alliance for fight against Macedonia but loses - Battle of Chaeronea 338 bc

3.2. Macedonia doesn't act as Sparta did striking a deal with the city, which includes favorable conditions

3.2.1. The city gains a GOOD REPUTATION & POLITICAL CONTROL

3.2.2. Restituition of the prisoners without paying

4. In 337 BC. Philip invites Greeks to a conference. FOR FIGHTING THE PERSIANS

4.1. Philip is the leader.

4.2. No more wars between poleis.

4.3. Respect his descendants

4.3.1. Alessandro, he tries to make him more greek as possible see him as one of them

4.3.1.1. ( NATURAL LEADER)

5. But Philip II didn`t really conquer Greece , trying to create a panhellenic foederation and achieving his goal

5.1. EXPANDING HIS KINGDOM IN PERSIAN TERRITORY
