1. The material I am going to use for the stand is timber. Timber is pretty strong and can be recycled easily.
2. Aesthetics
2.1. The SHAPE of the casing should be cylindrical as this is the least space consuming shape and my client has asked for it to be portable.
2.1.1. The COLOUR of the product's casing should be white. This is because if the material is transparent, the electronics within the casing can be seen and it can look a bit unprofessional.
2.2. The casing must be smooth so that specular transmission of light can occur.
2.3. As my client has an interest in the Art Deco Movement, I will try to incorporate prominent features of the movement into my design.
2.3.1. Lighting in the Art Deco Movement consisted of a stand holding the light. The stands usually are coloured with metallic paint to make it look rich and bold.
3. Customer
3.1. The client is a middle aged woman so I need to be able to adapt my design to make sure it suits her age category and not seem too childish or too mature.
4. Size
4.1. The size of the product should be relatively small. This is due to the request of my client who said it should be easily portable.
4.2. When I was looking at already existing products, the most common size was 10 cm * 10 cm * 15cm. I shall also try to limit the size of my product to these dimensions, or otherwise they may be too big to be portable.
5. Function
5.1. The function of the product is when one button is pressed on an infrared remote, the light should turn on. If there is another button pressed , the music should play.
6. Cost
6.1. The maximum I am allowed to spend on this product is a budget of £40 set by my client. Within this budget, I need to make sure of the manufacturing and material cost but also the packaging cost.
7. Environment
7.1. In this product, I will need to consider using materials that can be recyclable.The plastic I am going to be using for the casing is going to be recyclable. This is important as if the product wears and breaks after usage, it should be recycled and this helps the environment.
7.2. Also the packaging of the product should be made out of a recyclable material such as cardboard.
8. Safety
8.1. I need to make sure that the product is as safe as possible. I need to make sure that all the wires are heat shrinked and hidden behind the casing.
8.1.1. Also as I am making a product with plastic I need to make sure that there are no rough edges.
