1. Paragraph 2 – Place

1.1. POINT:Saint Springfield Community

1.2. EVIDENCE:Yep,this is really clear as a quotation just because——it is mentioned in the beginning:” Springfield Central High School”.And also, when Regina tell Quinn his father is killed,Quinn describes his expression like this:” That proud pity for Saint Springfield’s two sons”.This is a community with some sorts of "chaos.". Here you can see old dirty wine stores (allowing teens to buy alcohol), chaotic ball games, and frequent street fights and messy police system.Of course, this is also where our characters live.

1.3. EXPLANATION:Springfield is where all the plot and all the character relationships happen——Rashad joins the ROTC to prepare for joining the army,Quinn is familiar to him because of his ROTC uniform;the cop(Paul) who beat Rashad up is Quinn's brother, and Quinn and his friends just witness this happening. When Rashad’s incident goes on TV, almost everyone in the community knows about it(Just happens to have the plot of Paul and Marc).Everyone begins to notice this incident, the city seems to be split in race teams. After Quinn and his friends make graffiti about the incident and posted it on the Internet,it happens to be a protest in the community.Springfield represents the living environment of the characters, which will greatly affect their personality, attitude and story’sdevelopment. I think Springfield is a representation of the black and white mixed community in the United States during the war during the Afghanistan War. This allows us to more quickly accept the social background of the story and think about the theme of the story: war, racial discrimination, the media ,conformity, internet chaos, loyalty, all incitement and herd ... everything about Springfield allows us to understand the story more deeply.

2. Paragraph 1 – The Time

2.1. POINT:The events Mrs. Fitzgerald talks about

2.2. EVIDENCE:When Rashad is still in the hospital and hears about the protests in the community, Mrs. Fitzgerald, while chatting with him, mentions the previous unfair attitude of whites to blacks and blacks’ protests to whites.

2.3. EXPLANATION:These events explain that the conflict between blacks and whites is a legacy of history that will be brought to the present and will be difficult to make up for. Of course, these events remind us of Rashad's incident, the racial issues revealed in the story and Springf's protest, let us continue reading.

3. Paragraph 3 – The Author(Or,more in reality)

3.1. POINT:The Afghan War.

3.2. EVIDENCE:This is mentioned in many places in the story, and also, this is a real war happened in our history.

3.3. EXPLANATION:I think the quotation outlines the social environment and historical background of the story. This makes the development of the story change with the uncertainty of the society caused by the war,but anyway, the story is based on some specific social background.Just like Rashad’s father’s opinion, Joining the army is a good way for black people to improve the social’s view to them, but in fact, it doesn't change much. Even though Rashad is preparing for joining the army, he will still be accused of stealing and then beaten into the hospital by a white police. And like Quinn,he doesn’t care much about the war,but when his father is killed because of the war, he begin to doubt who is the "evil" one in the war. The author wants to show all the drama that war brings to the characters and their community. When readers understand the time and the event behind the story, they can quickly put themselves into the story and get it moving. And also, when the background is about the reality,it makes us think, what if these stories, these dramas are also happening or happened in the true world? This will remind us.

4. INTRODUCTION:I'm going to talk about the settings used in the All American Boys, and my understand to the story, the background, and the author.

5. CONCLUSION:The themes of this story are "racial conflicts" and "a future that can be made up for".As life happens,Americans(and also, everyone) still need to take action to dispel hate and estrangement between races, then create a new tomorrow for all.
