Objectives of an Orientation program

\n\n

Commercial\norganizations are known to spend a few weeks or even months on orientation\nprogrammes. The idea is to make the new employees feel at home’ in the new\nenvironment.

\n\n

v It is a well-known\nfact that employees feel anxious on entering an organization.

\n\n

v They worry about how\nwell they will perform on the new jobs.

\n\n

v They feel inadequate\nwhen they compare themselves with the more experienced employees, and they are\nconcerned about how well they will get along with their co-workers.

\n\n

Effective\norientation programmes reduce the anxiety of new teachers by providing them\ninformation on the job environment and on seniors, b) introducing them to co-teachers,\nand by encouraging them to ask questions.

\n\nThe ease with which teachers\nadjust to a new job and work environment is, often, a function of the\nexpectations they bring to the job. If expectations are realistic, adjustments\nwill be relatively simple. If, however, expectations are unrealistic or\nunreasonable, adjustment will be more difficult.
