1. Reflection

1.1. What?

1.1.1. Reflection is the change in direction of a wavefront at an interface returns into the medium from which it originated.

1.2. Laws of reflection:

1.2.1. 1)The incident ray, the reflected ray and the normal to the reflection surface at the point of incidence lie in the same plane

1.2.2. 2)The angle which the incident ray makes with the normal is equal to the angle which the reflected ray makes to the same normal.

2. Refraction

2.1. What?

2.1.1. Refraction occurs when light passes from an optically denser medium to an optically less dense medium and vice versa.

2.2. Laws of Refraction:

2.2.1. 1)The incident ray, the refracted ray and the normal all lie on the same plane.

2.2.2. 2) Snell's Law is used to describe the relationship between the angles of incidence and refrection, when referring to light or other waves passing through a boundary between two different isotropic media, such as water and glass.

3.1.1. Total internal reflection occurs when a ray of light strikes a medium boundary at an angle larh=ger than a particular critical angle with respect to the normal to the surface.

3.1.2. If the refractive index is lower on the other side of the boundary and the incident angle is greater than the critical angle, no light can pass through and all of the light is reflected.
