Reasoning Ethically by Mind Map: Reasoning Ethically

1. I Live According to My Ethical Values

1.1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

1.1.1. I believe it is my responsibility to reduce waste by reusing things when I can, and recycling when I can't. I shop at secondhand stores first when I need clothing, house materials, furniture, etc. No reason to use resources to get something new when we can utilize what we already have in front of us.

1.2. Be Kind and Respectful to Everyone

1.2.1. I have made it a personal challenge to view and treat my fellow humans with kindness. This means making eye contact, smiling, being interested in who they are, and holding back judgment. People are important, and I hope they feel valued when I interact with them.

1.3. Honesty is My Way of Life

1.3.1. Honest with money, honest in relationships, honest in school. While it might not be the easiest thing to tell the truth, it is the only way to have a true connection with others and with oneself.

1.4. Be Charitable

1.4.1. If I have resources to spare, I share. Food, money, time, knowledge etc. Charitable acts are not only good for the recipients, but they produce happiness for those give as well.

2. I Have Learned to Recognize Ethical Issues: Realizations and Impactful Thoughts I've Had in my Years at CWI

2.1. Poverty is Not Necessarily a Result of How Hard Someone is Willing to Work

2.2. The Life I was Born into has Provided me with Privilege that Others are not so Lucky to Enjoy

2.2.1. I Have a Responsibility to Use my Resources and Knowledge to Encourage or Help Make the World a Better Place

2.3. Education Reform is Necessary for a Better Society

2.4. Healthcare Reform is Necessary for a Better Society

3. Evidence that I Have Grown Ethically

4. Educational Experiences

4.1. Global Health Class

4.1.1. Wrote a paper arguing that life giving medicines should be made affordable to those who need it. Research showed me how big pharma profiteers from those in literally life or death situations.

4.2. Philosophy

4.2.1. Argued an ethical point of view on abortion. The research involved showed compelling data on both sides of the argument, leading to a conclusion of addressing the root of the issue and not the symptom, and more importantly, to try and see every perspective in order to make an informed decision.

4.3. Psychology

4.3.1. Designed a Powerpoint Presentation on Borderline Personality Disorder. My research enlightened me on the many psychological challenges that people have because of either their environment, their biology, or both. I learned to be understanding, patient, and sensitive to my fellow human beings. Most importantly, I learned that mental illness is much more common than people realize, and the stigma that goes with it needs to go away.

4.4. Associates Degree

4.4.1. Ethical reasoning has been enhanced for me with my education at CWI. I've gained perspective and the ability to back up my beliefs with facts and data. I hope to build my ethical foundation as I continue on with my education and with life.
