Health in My Classroom: National Health Education Standards by Mind Map: Health in My Classroom: National Health Education Standards

1. Standard 1: Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.

1.1. One way that I would meet standard one is by teaching my students about each dimensions of health. I would go through each dimension and teach them how they can meet each of their dimensions of health.

2. Standard 2: Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.

2.1. One way that I could meet standard two is by creating a class discussion on this standards. The topic would be: what healthy habits do their guardians do? I will explain to them a simple walk or a work out can be just as healthy for a person. I would also ask them if their is anything that their guardian can improve on.

3. Standard 3: Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health.

3.1. For the third standard I would first ask my students who and where can they get valid health information. I would go through the answers and explain why or why not they/it would be a valid resource. I would then explain to them who and where to go to for valid health information.

4. Standard 4: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

4.1. For the fourth standard I would first explain to my students the appropriate ways to react to their health needs. I would explain to them that their bodies have different ways in communicating their health needs. I would then ask and explain who is reliable to go to when meeting each if their health needs.

5. Pre-K through 1st Grade

6. Standard 5: Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health.

6.1. With standard five I would go through different health situations. I would ask each students how they can meet each health situation. I would also explain if they can meet their situation themselves or if they need to see someone else for help.

7. Standard 6: Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health.

7.1. With standard six I would have each student create a short term health goal. I would help each of them know how they can meet their health goal. I would also help them to find someone who can meet their goal which continues following standard 5.

8. Standard 7: Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.

8.1. For standard seven I would explain what to avoid in order to be healthy. I would help the students in figuring out ways on how to reduce health risks. I would also continue to explain the different ways to improve their health.

9. Standard 8: Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

9.1. For this final standard I would have all the students demonstrate a way that they can be healthy. Everyone would do as the student says if it is possible to do in class. They can say reading a book is healthy for the mind or doing jumping jacks is healthy for the body. Either way we would participate in the activity that the student request.
