1. Militarism

1.1. Militarism is the belief in the power of strong armies and navies to decide issues

1.2. Germany and Austria- Hungary were very militaristic countries.

1.3. The size of the armies determined who would be the most powerful nation.

1.4. so for Germany and Austria to keep their military power, They felt that the they had to be better or equal in terms of there forces.

2. Alliances

2.1. Alliances are formed when countries band together against a common threat, and they support each other when at war.

2.2. There was a triple alliance formed between Germany , Austria -Hungary, and Italy.

2.3. These European alliances or triple alliances almost caused many more countries to go to war.

3. Imperialism

3.1. Imperialism was gaining momentum, and before WW1 Europe became interested in gaining new territory or colonies.

3.2. The European countries were getting heated and fighting for power and land

3.3. France had colonies in 2 places .Russia controlled 2 places. Britain controlled 12 places.

3.4. The United States had gained power in the pacific , but Germany was planning getting colonies, but when Germany acted there was no more valuable countries left,so as this went on they had a lot of violent confrontations because of the competition for colonies.

4. Nationalism

4.1. Nationalism is the feeling of loyalty to someone home land

4.2. Citizens who felt this way supported their country no matter what, and no country's back out of the war

4.3. in the 1900's Serbia bordered on the Australian province of Bosnia, around 1908 Austria-Hungary put Serbia under Australian authority/command.The Serbian people disliked it and was set one freeing Bosnia,later a terrorist organisation was formed called the "black hand" to turn Serbia into one powerful nation/empire.

4.4. The Austrians felt the deep loyalty for their country and opposed the endeavours of Bosnia to break free from their ruling.

4.5. The nations became more aggressive
