1.1. We can also use would in place of used to for past habits but we cannot use would for past states.

1.1.1. In ancient times, people would shout messages to the next tower in order to pass on informatic kingdom.

1.1.2. INCORRECT : People would have very powerful voices.

2. Used To

2.1. Use used to for past states, habits and situations that are no longer true.

2.1.1. Did you use to have a blue car?

2.1.2. Yes, I did. I sold it three years ago.
