Optimization of non-periodic inspection of structural components using a Bayesian approach by Mind Map: Optimization of non-periodic inspection of structural components using a Bayesian approach

1. Why is it being done?

2. Due to the existence of a demand to maintain obsolete infrastructure more efficiently and effectively in many industries.

3. in what areas?

4. For safety-critical infrastructure such as nuclear power plants, aircraft structural components, and aircraft turbine engines, you want to optimize inspections with regard to cost and reliability.

5. What is Bayesian Analysis?

6. It is based on subjective probability, it works with the updating of the evidence considering the knowledge acquired prior to an investigation, plus the evidence obtained with it. The interpretation of the results requires the specification of the hypotheses to be tested and their a priori probability before the study. The evidence of the study is measured with the Bayes factor (reason for the compatibility of the data under the proposed hypotheses).

7. Which enables?

8. The conjunction of the a priori probabilities of the hypotheses with the Bayes factor allows us to calculate the a posteriori probability of each one. The hypothesis with the highest degree of certainty in its update is the one accepted for making the decision.
