1. Nouns

1.1. Possessives: nouns

1.1.1. We add 's to singular nouns to show possession: Example We are going to celebrate a birthday at Carlos's house.

1.1.2. We add 'to plural nouns ending in -s: Example: Those women's blouses.

1.1.3. But we use 's with irregular plural nouns: Example: Men's clothing is very expensive.

1.1.4. We can use a possessive noun phrase instead of a complete one to avoid repeating words: Example:Whose is this coat? It's from my wife. (It is NOT my wife's [coat]).

2. Adjectives

2.1. We use possessive adjectives:

2.1.1. To show that something belongs to someone: Example:This is our table where we will have dinner.

2.1.2. For relationships and friends. Example: My father is a teacher.

2.1.3. For body parts. Example:I Need to clean my hair.

2.1.4. The possessive adjective su what does not have an apostrophe ('): That bird has broken its (is NOT) wing.

3. Pronouns

3.1. Possessive pronouns that do not have an apostrophe: Is that car yours / his / ours / theirs? (NO, is that car yours / hers / ours / theirs?)

3.2. We can use a possessive pronoun instead of a complete noun phrase to avoid repetition of words: Example:That wasn't Carlos's girlfriend? No she is mine.

3.3. We can use possessive pronouns and nouns after. We can say: Example:I am a friend of Esteban's.

4. Questions

4.1. We use whose to ask questions about possession: Example: Whose are those pens?

5. Reciprocal pronouns

5.1. When two or more people do the same thing, we can use the possessive forms of the reciprocal pronouns each other’s and one another’s: Example:They help each other take care of each other's children
