Theme 2: Power and Oppression

1. Ted Talk about how to avoid implicit biases becoming interpersonal racism. (Trigger warning) Talks about acts of police violence.
2. Oppression is malicious or unjust treatment or exercise of power, often under the guise of governmental authority or cultural opprobrium. Oppression may be overt or covert, depending on how it is practiced
3. Levels of Racism
3.1. 1) Internalized Racism: race-based beliefs and feelings within individuals
3.2. 2) Interpersonal Racism: Bigotry or biases between individuals shown with words or actions.
3.3. 3) Institutional: Discriminatory policies and practices within organizations and institutions.
3.3.1. Challenges a student faces with interpersonal and Institutional racism.
