Perfect Tenses

1. Present Perfect Simple

1.1. Azioni concluse in un passato non specificato che hanno effetti sul presente

1.1.1. I have just watched the video which you sent me

2. Present Perfect Continuous

2.1. Azioni concluse recentemente o non ancora concluse che hanno effetti sul presente, ma di cui si sottolinea la durata

2.1.1. I have been watching the video all afternoon

3. Past Perfect

3.1. Si utilizza per parlare di un'azione avvenuta nel passato prima di un'altra azione passata più recente (spesso al past simple)

3.1.1. I read the mail that you had sent me

3.2. Si forma con il past simple di have (Had) + il past participle del verbo principale

3.2.1. As soon as he had entered the room, the murderer shot him

3.3. Come potete immaginare è molto difficile trovare il past perfect da solo in una frase semplice. Infatti molto spesso collabora con il past simple in frasi relative. Altre volte invece ricorrono ad alcune preposizioni:

3.3.1. Con il Past Perfect: As soon as, until, after already, just. Ma anche dopo espressioni come: It was the first\ second time...

3.3.1.1. It was the first time I had seen that movie

3.3.1.2. I felt bad after I had swun in the pool

3.3.2. Con il Past Simple: Before, when, by the time

3.3.2.1. He had already locked the door when the thief mugged him
