Brief history of the periodic table by Mind Map: Brief history of the periodic table

1. The French chemist Antoine Lavoisier tried to group the elements as metals and non-metals.

1.1. In 1829

1.2. The German physicist Johann Wolfang Döbereiner observed similarities in the physical and chemical properties of certain elements. He organized them into groups of three in increasing order of atomic weight and called them triads.

1.2.1. In 1860

1.2.2. At the first chemistry conference in Karlsruhe, Germany, a breakthrough was made with the publication of a revised list of elements and their atomic masses.

1.2.2.1. In 1864

1.2.2.2. The first British chemist John Newlands was the one to organize the elements in a periodic table with increasing order of atoms. He discovered that every eight elements had similar properties and called this the law of octaves. He arranged the elements in eight groups, but did not leave spaces for undiscovered elements.

1.2.2.2.1. In 1869

1.2.2.2.2. Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev created the framework that became the modern periodic table, leaving spaces for items yet to be discovered. Mendeleev predicted the properties of some strangers elements and gave them names like & quot; eka-aluminum & quot; for an element with properties similar to aluminum.
