1. Subcutaneous

1.1. No more than 1ml of fluid injected into ADIPOSE TISSUE

1.1.1. Needle size = 3/8 to 5/8 are common but normal size is up to 1in

1.1.2. Inject at 45 to 90 degree angle

1.1.3. Gauge = 25-30

1.2. Use Z-track method to prevent leakage of fluid

2. Intradermal

2.1. Used to inject small amounts of fluid 0.5 ml max under the epidermis

2.1.1. Needle size = 1/4 to 1/2

2.1.2. Gauge= 25 or 27

2.1.3. Types of injections = turbuculin or allergy testing

2.1.4. Inject at a 5 to 15 degree angle with bevel sideup

2.1.5. Injected to inner forearm

3. Intramuscular

3.1. Size of needles: 5/8 ton1 1/4 (vastus lataralis and deltoid in children). Deltoid - adults 1 to 1 1/2

3.2. Gauge= 20 to 25 for aqueous solution OR 18-25 for oil based solution

3.3. MAX = 1- 4 mL or 1- 2 mL in deltoid/ children or older tubes
