3. Why Do We Need NEW Technologies?
3.1. We need new technologies to continue bettering our culture
3.2. To continue innovation and improvements
3.3. To spark different human reactions and emotions for more connection between individuals
3.4. New technologies bring new ideas
3.5. Everything is evolving
4. Technology is MANY things
4.1. as Hardware
4.1.1. A piece of hardware like a clock, laptop, belt, spatula
4.2. as Manufacturing
4.2.1. The systems holding the hardware together like a bolt in a machine or programming in a computer
4.3. as Methodology
4.3.1. The knowledge and knowhow behind all the processes to make up hardware and manufacturing.
4.4. as Social Usage
4.4.1. How we use technology as a society. We as people control the way technology is made and used
4.5. (Dyer, 2009)
4.6. Dyer (2009) explains how the definition of technology is so much larger than we know. There are many branches, terms, ideas, knowledge that go behind it. It is not just an electronic in our hands but all that it is comprised of. Technology may be known as a term that focuses on making our lives easier but it is deeper and bigger than us. Technology affects us individually and socially and is apart of our everyday life (Dyer, 2009).
5. What I Think Now
5.1. There is no clear definition
5.2. Technology is just the top of an umbrella with so many branches of terms that make up its definition
5.3. Arthur (2009) sketched out 3 conceptions of technology
5.3.1. 1. To fulfill a human purpose
5.3.2. 2. An assembly of practices and components
5.3.3. 3. A collection of devices and engineering practices available to a culture
5.3.4. These concepts sketched out by Brian Arthur stuck to me when I was trying to define technology. While reading over this module, I really started to challenge myself to think bigger and deeper. Technology is not just one specific thing, it is many that fulfills a human purpose. Technology is to help and improve us as individuals in life and is different to everyone (Arthur, 2009).
5.4. Technology can encompass emotion
5.4.1. In the module, the apple commercial of the family using the IPad told a story how a piece of technology was able to bring a family together and spark emotion. It evokes a response in people that would not normally make people think would this be under a defining term of technology.
