DESCRIBING TEAHERS

1. Make a distinction between who we are,and who we are as teachers.

2. Act as resource than a transmitter of knowledge.

3. When teachers prompt,we need to help or guide students in a sensitively and encouragingly with discretion.

4. Non native teachers that can use the language and know about it,its the quality of their teaching that counts,not where they come from.

5. Teachers act differently and vary their behavior depending upon what they are doing,they could be energetic,clear,encouraging,interesting,etc.

6. Like actors because they feel as if they are always on the stage to entertain.

7. Foster good relationships with the groups in front of us so that they work together cooperatively in a spirit of friendliness.

8. Teachers will want to relax their grip and foster more democratic class pactices where students are involved in the process of decision-making and direction finding.

9. They are like orchesta conductors because direct conversation and set the pace and tone.

10. Like gardeners because they plant the seeds and then watch them grow.

11. Our attitude to the class make an immediate impression on students.

12. The teacher as a facilitator a democratic than autocratic and the one who fosters learner autonomy.

13. When teachers act as controller take the register,tell students things,organise drills,read aloud,it ccuts down on opportunities for studenst to speak.

14. There are teachers that sometimes want to join in an activity not only as a teacher,but also as a participant.

15. We need to spend time making sure that teacher-student rapport is positive and useful.We see this in a class that is positive,enjoyable and respectful relatiionship between teachers and students.

16. As teachers It is essential for us to act as tutors,we need to make sure that we do not intrude either too much or too little.
