Cloudcomputing by Mind Map: Cloudcomputing

1. 1.What?

1.1. Name

1.1.1. The term Cloud Computing comes from the use of a cloud-shaped symbol as an abstraction and the metaphor for the cloud and wireless solution

1.2. Service

1.2.1. The service consist of the infrastructure and platforms on which the applications run

1.3. Relies On

1.3.1. Sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economies of scale

1.4. Foundation

1.4.1. The broader concept of converged infrastructure and shared services

1.5. Use

1.5.1. Computing resources: hard- and software that are delivered as a service over a network

2. 2. Reasons to use CC

2.1. Improve Flexibility

2.1.1. You can change direction without having to invest a lot of money into people and new devices, hardware and software

2.2. Minimize cost

2.2.1. There's a growth possible without needing to buy / obtain expensive licenses and such. Which gives another motivation for a quicker growth.

2.3. Grow efficency

2.3.1. It takes fewer people to do more work on a cloud, which minimizes personnel costs.

2.4. Lower Step-in barrier

2.4.1. Lower costs means lower investments needed for a big effect. Which lowers the step-in barrier. E.g. you don't need any specialists to make programs for you as Saas and Paas are integrated. (Services as a service / Platforms as a service)

2.5. Reduce big costs

2.5.1. There's no need to spend big budgets on hard-, software, licensing fees, personnel,...

3. 6.Dangers?

3.1. Privacy

3.1.1. The cloud model has been criticised by privacy advocates for the greater ease in which the companies hosting the cloud services control everything

3.2. Security

3.3. Abuse

3.4. Dependance

3.4.1. If something severe happens at the cloud center, all companies relying on it could be in danger - The storage of a huge amount of data could be attractive to hackers / espionage

3.5. Forced to adopt

3.5.1. If the cloud changes everyone has to change with it

4. 3.Different Kinds of Cloud Computing

4.1. Web-based cloud services

4.1.1. These services let you exploit certain web service functionality, rather than using fully developed applications. For example, it might include an API for Google Maps, or for a service such as one involving payroll or credit card processing.

4.2. SaaS (Software as a Service)

4.2.1. This is the idea of providing a given application to multiple tenants, typically using the browser. SaaS solutions are common in sales, HR, and ERP.

4.3. Service commerce

4.3.1. These types of cloud solutions are a mix of SaaS and managed services. They provide a hub of services which the end-user interacts with. Common implmentations include expense tracking, travel ordering, or even virtual assistant services.

4.4. Platform as a Service

4.4.1. This is a variant of SaaS. You run your own applications but you do it on the cloud provider’s infrastructure.

4.5. Utility cloud services

4.5.1. These are virtual storage and server options that organizations can access on demand, even allowing the creation of a virtual data center

4.6. Managed services

4.6.1. This is perhaps the oldest iteration of cloud solutions. In this scenario, a cloud provider utilizes an application rather than end-users. So, for example, this might include anti-spam services, or even application monitoring services.

5. 5.Characteristics

5.1. Reliability

5.1.1. This makes Cloud Computing suitable for Businesses because without this, -big- companies wouldn't trust on it

5.2. Agility

5.2.1. The ability to change the technological infrastructure and resources very smooth

5.3. Independance

5.3.1. Device and Location don't have to be on the same place as the company itselve

5.4. Maintenance

5.4.1. Good maintenance by specialists that otherwise in private would be too expensive

5.5. Virtualization

5.5.1. Technology allows servers and storage devices to be shared and utilization to be increased, you can connect from everywhere (If you have an Internet connection - which is almost everywhere these days)

6. 4.The Belgian Market
