Principles of the CLOA
by Erica Byenkya
1. This involves schema (a mental representation of knowledge) a term coined by Fredrick Bartlett. He observed that people often had trouble remembering stories from other cultures and reconstructed them to fit their cultures schema
2. Researchers have built or created models and developed theories to explain mental processes such as memory. And used research methods (at one time mostly experiments) to test and improve or disprove theses models
3. It is believed that much like a computer system humans use hardware (the brain) and software (mental processes) to produce output (behavior)
4. Human beings are information processors and mental processes guide behavior
5. The mind can be studied scientifically
6. Cognitive processes are influenced by social and cultural factors
