1. How did I get here?

1.1. During the summer I teach swimming lessons at a private pool in my hometown.

1.1.1. A couple years back I had to opportunity to work with a young man with autism spectrum disorder and every since I have known that was the field I would be in.

1.2. I have always known that I want to help people above all

1.2.1. I found Speech Pathology when searching through major options and it fit my goals perfectly

1.2.1.1. 1. I am able to help people

1.2.1.2. 2. Working with the disabled in this field happens almost on a daily basis

1.2.1.3. 3. Family life is entirely possible throughout all of life's stages

1.2.1.3.1. I am able to work in clinics/hospitals but then when I have children of my own I am able to work in the school system and be on the same schedule as they are

2. Speech Pathology uses

2.1. Stutters

2.1.1. Can put a lot of stress on individuals

2.1.1.1. effects the speaker and the listener

2.1.1.2. professionals debate on the affects it has on individuals later in life

2.1.1.2.1. Can increase the risk for anxiety at a younger age

2.2. Lisps

2.3. Final syllable deletion

2.3.1. example: saying bee when really what the child means is beat

2.3.1.1. One syllable can change the entire meaning, therefore Speech Pathology is needed so that listeners can understand the child better

2.4. Deaf

2.4.1. Speech Pathologists can also work with those who have a hearing disability in order to help them be able to speak a little even though they are not able to hear themselves speak

3. My Goals

3.1. 1. Help people

3.1.1. Above all I want to help people achieve dreams they never thought they could achieve

3.2. 2. Work with the disabled

3.2.1. I have fallen in love with every single person I have come in contact with that has a disability so that really is my passion

3.3. 3. Have time for a family of my own

3.3.1. Work is important to me but I want to be able to start a family of my own someday

4. Speech Pathology in regards to those with disabilities

4.1. The disabilities of people that need services regarding Speech Pathologists are endless

4.2. Elderly who have had a stroke

4.3. Those with ADHD and ADD

4.4. Autism Spectrum Disorder

4.4.1. One method used to help in not only training but everyday life was the little known Comic Strip Conversation method.
