Validity and Reliability
by Chanda Walker
1. Types of Validity
1.1. Content
1.1.1. The test questions should be in line with (correspond with) the what the teacher is covering.
1.2. Criterion-Related
1.2.1. The scores are correlated with an external criterion. There are two types: concurrent and predictive.
1.3. Construct
1.3.1. There must be a relationship that corresponds with the same theory.
2. Types of Reliability
2.1. Test-Retest
2.1.1. The same test is administered twice to the same group of students, and the scores are correlated. Longer times between the tests, the lower the correlation.
2.2. Alternative Form
2.2.1. Two equivalent forms of the test must be available and need to be administered under the same conditions.
2.3. Internal Consistency
2.3.1. The testing items should be correlated and the internally consistent with each other.
