Theories and Frameworks by Mind Map: Theories and Frameworks

1. Social Construction of Technology (SCOT)

1.1. Principles

1.1.1. Technology is created by humans.

1.1.2. SCOT is used as a methodology to analyse technological success and failures.

1.1.3. Technology has cullturally based meanings.

1.1.4. Social groups of technology are the people who produce it and use it.

1.1.5. Technology is designed in different ways in different communities to solve different problems.

1.1.6. Technology is not static.

1.1.7. Implication:Teach students to become technologically literate.

2. Cognitive Load Theory

2.1. is a subset of Cognitvist theory

2.2. Based on working memory, long term memory, and schemas

2.3. Working memory can typically handle about 7 pieces of information at a time

2.4. Three types of cognitive load (extrenous, germane, intrinsic)

3. TPACK

3.1. Teachers need 3 types of knowledge

3.1.1. 1. Content knowledge

3.1.2. 2. Pedagogical knowledge

3.1.3. 3. Technological knowledge

3.2. TPACK is where these three types of knowledge converge into each other and inform sound teaching with proper technology.

3.3. This is a link to TPACK

3.4. TPACK skills are built over time by teachers.

4. Connectivism

4.1. A learning theory developed in response to the rapid onset of technology and the accessibility of new information.

4.2. Due to how quickly new information arises, professionals must constantly be learning and developing their knowledge to stay current.

4.3. The knowledge must be stored in networks or databases as there is too much available for one mind to retain. The ability to navigate these databases becomes almost more important than having the knowledge itself.

4.4. By establishing connections with other professionals and networks, the student will be able to access a wealth of knowledge that may not be accessible without the connections that are made.

5. Constructivism

5.1. . Personal experience has a significant effect on learning

5.2. Knowledge is constructed by learner.

5.3. . Learning consists of both individual and social processes.

5.4. Learning occurs as a result of cognitive equilibrium

6. Technology Theories

6.1. Media Ecology

6.1.1. There is no single definition.

6.1.2. It is the study of media as environment.

6.1.3. Technology has very strong influences in society.

6.1.4. Technology affects the way we see the world.

6.1.5. Media ecology association

6.1.6. Sees humans as affected by technology.

6.1.7. SCOT sees technology being affected by humans.

7. Philosophy of Teachnology

7.1. It is similar to the philosophy of teaching.

7.2. It addresses a teacher's personal values and ideas about how technology can be used in teaching.

7.3. Teachers can develop written statements that outline their philosophy of teachnology.

7.4. Can develop one by asking questions about how I see teachnology as a teaching tool.

7.5. Includes technology use in the classroom in outline learning and in PD.

7.6. My PLN can be included in my philosophy of teachnology.
