Learners' Charter - Learning with ICT

(Rosia Roberts)Our children have changed radically and they are no longer the people our education system is designed to teach. These students ‘digital natives’ meaning that they are born after the introduction of digital technology and can better relate to the technology, since they have spent their entire lives surrounded by and using computers, video games, digital music players, video cams, cell phones, and all the other toys and tools of the digital age. We as cannot afford to teach these children in an analogue classroom and we have to be aware of these digital natives and involve ICT creatively in the classroom. Furthermore, since more technological tools are being used in most homes, having technology in the classroom will serve as a bridge from home to the school.

{Chad} I second that...

Janet Caine [In today's world of technologies learners have the right to use ICT tools to their advantages.

[Janet Caine]: In today's world of technologies learners have the right to use ICT tools to their advantages.

The use of ICT enables learners to function effectively in a technological world.

Technologies can expand what children learn by helping them understand the core concepts in different subject areas

ICT helps to motivate people who are not academically incline.

[Maxim] this is soo true. I see it everyday with my math students

Students have the right to demonstrate their skills using ICT.

The use of ICT reduces from the chalk and talk and the desks and texts.

The use of ICT encourages more effective learning through active engagement, group participation and through frequent interaction and feedbacks.

ICT creates an opportunity where people connect worldwide.

Learners can use the devices to design new technologies.

ICT allows learners to continuously seek ways to improve the processing of information.

With persons taking the challenge to learn ICT it creates an information base society.

The use of ICT helps learners to create a global friendship.

[Chad Grant] Learners have a right of access to a decent education with ICT.

(SHENAZAR LEWIS) Having access to ICT

{ELicia Edwards} should have the right to a decent education with ICT.

Josset Daniel-Charles: Their right to a decent education means that learners must be given support and guidance.

(Patrina Friday) a good education in ICT will give learner the skill to work and function in this technological world.

[chad] Good education with the right attitude and the willingness to learn is key.

{Yoel Scrubb}To function adequately in today's and tomorrow's society learners have to be trained with the necessary skills and attitudes. The use of technology being one of those skills

[Chad] I concur!

[Sonia Soleyn] learnes have the right to use ICT to broaden their knowledge of world culture.

(SHENAZAR LEWIS) ICT can be very beneficial in todays world of technology.

Especially job searching

Effective teaching with ICT gives learners the following rights: access to computer system with requisite software, high speed internet, an environment conducive for efficient training, clear objectives, proper infrastructure, feedback, and learning as a team. These all enhance ICT skills and the improvement helps to meet the challenges of the competitive world

[Janet Caine] ICT allows learners to continuously seek ways to improve the processing of information.

(Linson Keil) I quite agree that learners have a right to a good education with ICT but the teachers should have the relevant training to make it effective.

[Godwin]This is only possible if eachers are willing to accept training.

(Selvanus) Hey Godwin I agree that some teachers refuse ICT training. The question therefore is, what do we do with these teachers while our students continue to be "short changed".

( Jannis John) Learners have the right to be provided with the necessary skills and knowledge in ICT to equip them for the constantly changing world.

shenazar Lewis - In todays changing world of technology, having skills and knowledge in ICT is a must.

Godwin Martin - ICT when used effectively opens the windows to a child's world of learning.

(Cedric)Teachers fail to implement ICT effectively because they lack the proper training to do so.

Who is responsible for this training?

Learning is a lifelong business. Therefore it is important that ICT skill be taught to all learners at their own pace in their own style of learning (Godwin)

(Clyde Fitzpatrick): Learners have the right to a sound education. ICT integration is the current path to take if they are to be lifelong learners.

(Selvanus) To make a visa appointment, to book a flight, to check in for a flight. These along with many others are quickly becoming on on-line/internet only activity. I agree we have to give our learners/students the required skills.

(Fitzroy) - ICT is real world; hence learning through ICT prepares students for the real world in very and many practical ways.

Ethical issues

Security issues

Effective and efficient use of productivity software

Networking and collaboration

[maxim Ryan] To get a job, most employers would like to know that applicants are computer literate, or they would say a pass in CXC would be an asset. so by integration ICT in every class it makes IT for CSEC so much easier to pass which enables then a criterion for most job today.

(Gillian Bradshaw) Learners have the right to a sound education with ICT to help them function comfortably in a changing modern world.

(Mavis Joseph) ICT skills cannot be seen as an option for students of today’s society, educators, therefore, must prepare them for a life that is bombarded by technological gadgets everywhere.

( Maria) Using ICT skills should not be an option now as students are are already using the technology through the use of remote cars and other gadgets

Learners have the right to decent in education learning with ICT. Due to the implementation of new technologies and digital media which have made significant progress, generated impact, improvement on the conditions for learning in education, training and lifelong learning

{Racquel Nanton} Learners have the right to decent in education learning with ICT. Due to the implementation of new technologies and digital media which made significant progress and generated impact, improvement on the conditions for learning in education, training and lifelong learning.

Racquel Nanton- I must make mention that i so agree with the statement made Mr. Martin. However, not forgetting " we used to look in wonder at the areas in which ICT were used to boost productivity. Today we wonder how the economy, technology and society could have done without ICT.

The world is quickly evolving into a technological village. Therefore the new learners are now net natives but for the older ones they need to have access to ICT tools and skills in order to survive the global change. The world is quickly evolving into a technological village.
