1. Input Devices Communicate Information from the user in to the Computer

1.1. Keyboards are primarly used to enter data with the typewriter type of keys. Some navigation is allowed through the cursor keys.

1.1.1. Keyboards are necessary for students to create word processing documents. Students can easily learn to uitlize a keyboard through online tutorials or typing software.

1.2. A Mouse is used to navigate on screen, move objects and make selections.

1.2.1. A mouse is the main type of naviational tool that is used by students. Students as early as preschool can easily learn to use a mouse, as the movements are easily detected and shown on screen with the cursor.

1.3. Touchpads are primarly found on laptops. This is another type of navigation tool, much like a mouse. It is pressure-sensitive and most commonly used for navigation.

1.3.1. Touchpads are appropriate for older elementary and above students. Given that it is pressure-sensitive, young students may have difficulty navigating and may become frusterated. The small amount of movement required to move the cursor through the touchpad is sometimes difficult for young students to understand and uitlize.

2. Output Devices Carry Information out of the computer

2.1. Printers Provide Users with a Hard copy of information

2.1.1. Printers can be extremely useful when students are first learning to use computers. Students can output a hard copy of the information they need to take away from the classroom.

2.2. Monitors Allow users to view a soft copy of the information communicated

2.2.1. Monitors can be used in classrooms easily. When a full class is attempting to follow on the monitor projection may be required.
