1. Male Sexuality
1.1. Carnivalization of Male sexuality.
1.2. Machismo is an expected norm.
1.3. Men act as transgressors.
1.4. Young men are encouraged to become seducers.
1.5. Male infidelity not liked, but expected and deemed unavoidable.
2. Female Sexuality
2.1. Women set the boundaries sexually.
2.2. Often left defenseless against male sexual aggression.
2.3. Women are expected to maintain their virginity.
2.4. At a young age, women are already looked at as sexual objects.
2.5. Teenage girls find older men as partners to help them establish power and safety.
2.6. Sacanagem is viewed as a positive to some but a negative to others.
2.6.1. These are sexual acts that are on the borderline of taboo, but at the same time are expected.
3. Humor
3.1. Joking helps to ease he pain of sexual violence.
3.2. Laughter helps them get over tragic events.
3.3. Using humor is a way to make stories easier to digest, but more importantly interesting enough to listen to completely.
4. Brazilian Lower Class
4.1. Lower / Working class are looked at differently even in regards to sexuality.
4.2. Lower class women have to prove they value their virginity in court cases featuring sexual violence.
4.3. Lower class women have to fend for themselves against the aggressive lower class men.
5. Violence as stories
5.1. Gloria's daughter and niece were raped.
5.1.1. Claudia and Anita were raped as Gloria was a room away.
5.1.2. Anita faked being in pain to maintain the idea that she is a virgin.
5.1.3. Gloria finds this story humorous despite the obvious tragic nature of it.
5.2. Marilia tried to kill her husband with rat poison.
5.2.1. Marillia put rat poison in her husband's drugs.
5.2.2. Trying to kill this man was funny, even though it is a terrible act.
